I am new to ObesityHelp.com and I am looking for support out side of my regular support groups from the hospital. Just wanting to know if the things that are going on with me are normal around this time or if my body is just weird. I am now able to start adding carbs into my diet and my body is loving them more then the protien. I am still having a hard time keeping some protien down. The veggies and fruit I am not having a problem with nor am I having a problem with the starchy carbs. Why is my body excepting the starchy carbs and not the protien that I really need. I find myself sitting around and thinking about how good those potatoes or other carbs are, and I am not even hungry. Could someone help me get through this hard time, and is anyone else going through this also?

Irene, sorry I can't help on why you are liking the carbs so much more. I can't stand carbs since my surgey, don't ask me why but potatoes taste aweful. I haven't tried pasta or rice and have no desire to. Just remember that protein is so important for you and you need it to stay healthy. I find that after I eat my protien I have little room for anything else. Focus on getting your protein in first and it should help you stay away from carbs easier. Good Luck. Dana

Wow Irene, 121 pounds in three months - you are doing great. Just remember that now is the time we need to retrain ourselves in better eating habbits. I too, can eat starches and they still taste so good to me. So each meal I make sure they are in their proper order, after protein and good starches. I sometimes don't eat them, or I might have a bite. I am still having a problem with meat so I have to rely on getting most of my protein from my shakes. I am in love with the whey protein fuzzy navel. No carbs, no sugars, no fat and only 90 cal. for 23 grams of protein. It has been a life savor. Good luck, Mary M.

I found I was trying to eat meat with to low of Fat content my Nutritionist told me not to go under 80/20 fat content or it will be to dry for us. She said we may not eat much but we should eat good and to low of fat can be as bad as to high. Shannon my wife found a couple of great cook books for WLS patient that have helped a lot. I have I can eat anything in small amounts so I eat the protein first good veggies second and then a small amount of starchy veggies. John

Hi John, Where did your wife find the cook books for WLS. I've been in Border's and Barnes and Noble. I haven't found any. I'd love to get one. I need to spice up my menu. Thanks, Maisy
