Hi everyone... I am 10 weeks out and am only able to get about 1 oz. of food in a day. Is this going to affect my weight loss? I have had trouble with food in general. It seems like everything I eat makes me sick. I have already had my first EGD. We thought it was a stricture....turned out to be an ulcer. Everything makes me either feel sick or be sick and I am looking at food as yuk!!!! Does anyone have any suggestions?

Wow, I am sure sorry you are having such a problem ;( I also wish I had some advice for you, but all I can say is work with your doctor and dietician . I do hope you are feeling better soon; I went through a phase where all food made me upset and I can relate! (my food problems just went away by themselves at around 6 weeks postop).

My only suggestion is to go slow - real, real slow. See if you can tolerate better if you take very small bites and drag it out - one little bite and wait to see what happens, if it feels okay, then another little bite. My severe problems cleared up too at 6 weeks. The only way I have a problem now is if I eat too fast. Good luck, and it will get better.. Shelaine

Hi Vicki, I am sorry about your ulcer. I am very ulcer-prone too so I feel your pain. Has your doctor prescribed anything for you? I take a soluable tablet form of Prevacid. It works fast and not having to swallow a pill is a big plus. I had a sticture and wasn't eatting anything for a while. I think backing off food for a few days helped my stomach heal faster. Then I started over with the liquids and then puree foods until I could tolerate them again. Just make sure your're getting your protien in by driniking milk and your protien-powder shakes. Hang in there. IT WILL GET BETTER! Connie

hi vicki: i'm so sorry to hear you're having troubles. my best suggestion would be to start with broth, then move to runny cream of wheat, then progress to thin mashed potatoes. the whole idea being to stay with bland and gradually increase thicknesses of food. and i agree with prior posts. work with your doctor and dietician. that's why they're there and they, too, want you to be succeeding. good luck, girl, keep us posted, ok? dorthe

Hi Vicki, My surgery was 2/08/05 and I can't get anything but soup, cottage cheese, pistashcios or yogurt to stay down. I have had many scans and tests to check for problems but none there. I have vomited everything other then these things listed from week 3 to presently and I am dealing with nausea on a daily basis. I sure hope it doesn't affect our weightloss. I've lost 39lbs so far, I'm not sure if I was eating properly it would be anymore. Feel better.
