I am almost 3 months out and and just being able to eat certain things. My nutrionist told me not to even LOOK at beef before 8 months out and Im glad she did....I cant stomach chicken right now!! I have tried chicken and chopped turkey and both arent going down too well. I stick with fish, beans, cheese and eggs. Trust me....the day will come that you will eat something and it doesnt come back to visit...when you do, its amazing!! I have just reached that point in my post-op Good Luck!

Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Hope you are not developing a stricture! I am able to eat anything but I have not tried any nono foods like sugars, etc. I can eat any meats, fats, rice, pasta - just in small amounts. I hope you get this cleared up!

Todd, The only time I have problems is when I eat to fast or do not chew at least 25 times or when I take a bite that is just to big. Sometimes I do not even realize I am doing these thing until I then a couple of Min.'s later I think to my selve I have to stop eating so fast and I am fine. John Lap RNY 2-8-2005 -72lbs

Oh Todd dear....When I read your post It was as if you and I are on the same page! I have even had to have an EGD done because my doctor thought maybe it was a stricture...I found out that I had a marginal ulcer and they prescribed me Nexium....it helped but I am only eating things, such as you are, that I know won't bother me.....I do know that the protien we get in our food will increase our weight loss. But as long as you are getting the required amount in your shakes you should be good. I certainly know what a struggle this can be because I'm in it with you.....I look in the fridge and cringe because nothing is as inviting when you are afraid it will make you sick....I have lost 72lbs and only have 45 more to go until I hit my goal weight. I am at 11 weeks out from surgery.....but I know that this will eventually change with time.....Plus my doctor has told me the quicker the weight comes off the better. Hang in there and keep us informed of your progress......God Bless!

Dear Todd, Congrats on the 80 lbs. I had surgery on 2/10 and I am having the same problem as you. Any kind of meat and I do NOT get along. I can eat about a tablespoon of meat, but anymore and I I spoke to the nutritionist about this on Friday and she said that it just takes time. I know most days I don't get enough protein, but I am trying to do more supplements. Most days I just don't feel like eating. I force myself to do some sort of protein shake/bar. My nutritionist was fine with getting the majority of my protein from shakes and bars. It's gotta do for now. Good Luck, Mary M.

Todd I just posted on the main message board about the same problem. I just got finished I ate alittle tuna and one mouthful too much! I eat slowly and chew well but only the liquids seem to be okay with me. Even semi soft foods don't go down well. On the first mouthful of anything my pouch starts to cramp up and second bite I get that uncomfortable feeling in the middle of my chest and third bite comes back to haunt me, if you know what I mean! My doc is happy I get liquids down and doesn't worry about the rest. Says to stop at two mouthfuls, that doesn't seem right to me. I have to get three shakes a day to get calories and enough protein in. He said I should be getting 800 cal. per day at almost three months out. Without my protein shakes I'd be in bad shape! I've lost 60 lbs. but I think I'd of lost even more if I had more caloric intake. Forget eating eggs, cheeses, beef, fish, turkey, even soup with vegetables! Sometimes I can eat a couple of bites of chicken. I live on cream of wheat! Does this sound normal to you?

thank you for all your feedback i called the nurse and she told me it was normal and to just find what does work and get the protein in everyday (easier said than done) she explained that the nerve endings are growing back in the pouch and as a result the pouch is not sure what it's supposed to do and is moody she said it will pass and there will be a day when i will wish i had the problem again because i'll be able to eat anything and will have to deal with will power. wi**** where here now. thanks again God bless p.s. for those of you dealing with the same good luck and hang in there(like we have a choice)
