Mary Jean Lanager "Also a slow loser"
I had RNY on 2/23/05. I lost very quickly to my surprise. At 5 weeks, I had lost 33 pounds. For the next 10 days, I lost "0". Today I lost one more pound. I have heard others say that after about 2 weeks postop, the pounds just fell off. I have been following my doctor's instructions to the tee, and do not know what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions??
Hello Jean
First, congratulations on your amazing weight loss!!! It's so exciting!!!!
I've read and heard from many that at around weeks 6-8 people who have lost rather quickly reach a platoe (spelling??). Perhaps this is where your body is. It's probable that your body is adjusting to the rapid loss of weight. Just stay with your dr. plan for you and soon you'll be loosing once again.
Best of Luck
Tami~
Mary Jean, I had RNY 2/10/05. I lost 30 pounds the first two weeks, and then for the next three, I lost nothing. I've lost 22 in the past three weeks for a total of 52 pounds as of this morning. Hitting that first plateau at 2 weeks just killed me, but, know that you are going to hit these and you will likely hit quite a few. Just try to up your water and protein during that time, and it can help push you through it.

Hi Mary I had my surgery the same day as you and I also have hit a plateau the last two weeks. It's just scary because I think that maybe this tool won't work for me like all the diets I have tried. But as much as I have learned this is very normal. I am a slave to the scale, every morning I am on it. Good luck to you, don't worry! Diane
Hi Mary Jean: You're most likely not doing anything wrong. Just keep the water and protein coming and you'll start seeing it drop again. My date was 2/8/5 and I wasn't able to weigh myself from 10 days out until one month out. The scale wouldn't go high enough. But it was probably for the best. I probably would have seen a stall, too.
You'd be better off sticking to once a week for a weigh-in, as I'm sure you've already heard. You'll worry less. Congrats on your progress so far. Keep up the good work.

Hi Mary-
You're doing great! Unfortunately, all of our bodies work differently. I lost 20 lbs the first two weeks and then NOTHING for about a month-it was MADDENING! I will be two months out Thursday, and have lost 37 pounds.
Hang in there, and keep on doing the right things-your body will reward you-PATIENCE is key. (Easier said than done, I know!)
Hugs,
Aly

I had wls on 2/23/05 and I have lost 39lbs. The first 2 weeks I lost 26lbs then nothing for like 2 or 3 weeks now I'm losing again very slowly. I too weigh every morning (shame on me but I just can't stop)I was considered a lite weight at 258. I work on my feet all day and went back after 2 1/2 weeks. I was just able to start working out (weights) without it pulling on my stomach too much, like 2 days ago.I'm still not able to get in all my fluids everyday (64 oz), I just can't drink that much. Protein is about 45-64 grams a day and was told to work towards 64 fluids and 64 protein.Plain water still gives me the "gaggies" and Crystal lite etc are too sweet and strong flavored. I do like the new Aquafina Citrus Blend flavored water and Dasani Lemon water but still can't get enough. I haven't had trouble eating just about anything (allowable) I haven't tried any no no foods.Good Luck too all of us Feb losers.
