Hello all, I hope you are all happy with your surgeries and the results. My name is Stephanie and I had the surgery Feb 28th, but then the complications set in. On March 5th, I had to be taken by ambulance to my local hospital for extreme pain all over and nausea. They then transferred me to the hospital where I had my surgery. I was diagnosed with dehydration and then they found my duodenum had ulcerated and perforated my gall bladder (which had to be removed) and I also had pancreatitis. I was in ICU for 6 days and then 15 more in a regular room. I have been out of the hospital for 1 week today. I may never know if the initial surgery caused my problems, but as of now I regret daily having the gastric bypass and would rather be 300lbs if it means I felt better and had an appetite. I have zero appetite and am finding it impossible to get my 50-60 grams of protein. What are some good tasty sources, because the shakes and supplements I have tried make me gag. Thanks for listening, I am in desperate need for some support from someone who understands. God Bless y'all......Steph in Alabama

Hi Stephanie, so sorry to hear about your difficult time. Try some yogurt or low carb yogurt smoothie drinks. They are really pretty good and have a good amount of protein. Help with the liquids as well. I didn't personally like the Atkins ones, but if you have access to Blue Bunny (usually at super-walmarts) or the Dannon light and fit smoothies, they are both good. Can you tolerate milk? You could make double strength milk, by adding non-fat dry milk powder to skim or 1% milk to increase the protein. Hope that helps, and that things start looking up for you. Chris, I'm so sorry to hear about what you had to go through. But if I can offer some encouragement. You WILL go "THROUGH" it. It doesn't seem like it now. But if anybody would have told me that I would be feeling great now the day after I came home from the hospital I would have cussed them out. The pain will subside, the appetite will come, and the weight will go. You can only "do your best" with the proteins at the vitamine shoppe they have a powdered shake called "whey tech" it comes in diff flavs and it helped me a lot in the beginning. Good luck and keep in touch. Saida

Steph, sorry you have had problems since your surgery. Hope things start looking up for you. As for an appetite, it gets better. I'm not sure what your dr. instructed you to eat, if you are on liquids, pureed foods, soft foods, or like reagular foods. I was told to get in as much protein as possible and not to worry about how much protein at first, just make sure what I ate was protein. I will keep you in my prayers, you will overcome this and feel better soon. Hugs, Dana

Steph~~ So sorry to hear of your troubles. I know that everyone's tastes are different. Do you have a dietician that is attached to your surgeon's practice or the hospital you went to? They can have some great ideas to try that might work for you. Sending you healing energy, Sara

Thanks to all who have repsonded. My main concern is the protein. Dieticians do me no good because I am toooooo picky and everything is easier said than done. My doctor INSISTS we stay on the pureed stage up to the 8th week and I am sick to death of mushy food (plus I hate fruit so sweet fruity stuff is past disgusting). I am just hoping to make it until I can eat more normal foods and maybe my outlook will improve. Went for my first post-op yesterday (had my surgery Feb 28th) and I am down 40 lbs.
