In reading post on here and profiles it is funny to see how different post op eating plans seem to be. Some say that they can already have pork and chicken salad, some say no meat until 6 weeks out. I am about to go out of town for 2 days and wondering what am I going to do about eating. Right now I am mainly eating grits, potatoes, and cherrios. Eggbeaters made me sick. I will be 4 weeks post-op on Monday but I don't go back to the dr until Thursday.

Hi Michelle ..im 5 weeks out and was wondering the same thing 1-2 weeks ago...i saw my surgeon and He said soft foods, that you can chew to the consistency of pureed/liquid ...Here is what ive been eating..and finding more and more as i go eggs (boiled, scrambled, over-easy, egg salad) chicken salad (just pop it in the chopper for a few to make it smoother) refried beans w/ shredded cheese and sour cream oatmeal (low sugar) cream of wheat (low sugar) soups (varieties) ..check fat content and sugar content cheeses (shredded, cheese sticks, cubes) crackers, wassa bread (real crunchy) green leafed salads s/f pudding, jello, popsicles Healthy Choices meals (Turkey breast and mashed potatoes MY FAV!) mashed, loaded, boiled and baked potatoes ham (deli, cooked, chunked) He also suggested fish and shrimp, but i dont like them, never have LOL hope this helps you out, would take it slow with these since you havent been eating much of a variety and ALWAYS check with your doctor's recommendations since every one of them are different. take care and good luck -hugs- dawn OPEN RNY 02/16/2005 -33 pounds 5 wks post op

Hi Michelle, I'm only a few days under 4 weeks post op...but I do not have much variety in my diet as of yet. I mainly eat chicken, but that has to be very tender (and I can't eat it reheated the next day...makes me sick every time!), shrimp, talapia fillets, occasionally mashed or baked potato....but I have never been much on potatoes either. I am really missing pasta and rices...and have had a bite or two of both. I mainly lived off of them before...so I guess that is why I am having such a hard time. Cheddar cheese has been a life saver for me too....s/f jello pudding, Carb Countdown milk and yogurts....that's about it for me.....I am so bored with food...if you come across any good ideas let me know.

I'm five weeks post op from LAP RNY. I feel great but find that most foods that I used to love just don't taste quite the same and not in a good way! Most meats taste like cardboard. Breads and pasta just don't have a good taste either. I'm kind of "bound up" so am sucking on a prune as I write! Cheerios, oatmeal, mashed potatoes and gravy, canned low sugar pears, peanut butter, broccoli are my favorites. My nutritionist gave me the go ahead to try just about anything. She cautioned me to chew, chew, chew, and try just a small amount until I see how it is tolerated. I find that since I can only eat a small amount I want it to be something that really tastes good. Only, I can't find what that thing is! Other than that I'm doing great. Down 45.5 lbs in 5 weeks and feeling very good. Best wishes, Karen

mICHeLLe, I'm 5 wks post-op and can eat just about anything, except too much sugar or grease. I can tolerate the toughest of food and the driest of food. The trick for me is to just chew chew chew. I don't eat chicken salad anymore because I don't know how to make it myself and the pre-packaged ones are loaded with fat! I can also eat at any restaurant without any problem. I really don't notice any changes in my ability to eat except for the fact that I can only take in a fraction of a portion. Let me list some things I've tried: 1 piece popcorn- no problem potatoes:mashed, scalloped, country fried-no problem eggs:scrambled, poached, boiled-no problem(except I had an over-cooked rubbery egg once and got SiCk! chicken:boiled, baked, grilled(El Pollo Loco),bbq-no problem beef:steak,grilled,stir-fry w/ vegetables-no problem pork:bbq, stir-fry, pan fried, bbq-no problem (but yuck! It grosses me out now) seafood-shrimp, squid, fish (never thought would EVER become a fav food), octopus, crab salad-no problem (just so chewy you have to work the jaw off) 1 spoon of rice-no problem 3 bites of bread-no problem just very filling Applebee's "pizza" tortilla appetizer- made me SiCk! too much grease! soup-matzo ball(ver filling), cream of brocolli, vegetable beef, clam chowder, chicken noodle-no problem cereal w/ no fat milk-made me SiCk! (too much sugar in milk and cereal) Pretty much because I have a limited size portion, I choose to eat only food that is worth eating now. I don't like meat at ALL anymore. Tastes like cardboard once you break it down to the right consistency, but I take it in for the protein. I LOVE seafood because the first bite tastes like the last. I have eaten at many a restaurants with no problem. I just eat whatever the boyfriend has ordered. APPLEBEES, CHILI'S, DENNY'S, EL TORITO, MARIE CALENDARS, CHICKEN N RIBS, EL POLLO LOCO, HOMETOWN BUFFET just to name a few. Lap Dr. Nazarian 2/16/05 237/209/115 down 28 lbs
