Well today was my first dumping episode and it was gross. I ate mini shrimp and I ate them too fast. I was starving and was not mindful how fast I was eating - plus I was on the phone and was not concentrating on my chewing. And man was I sorry. I ate too fast and sure I wasnt chewing slow enough. All of a sudden I got a tightness in my chest and I thought I was going to die. I decided to lie down and see if it would past...NOT. I jumped up and ran to the bathroom & up shrimp- twice.I immediately felt better and took a nap. Since I woke up I have had nothing bu****er. NO protein shake today- must do better tomorrow. I need to remember not to talk on the phone when I eat, slow down and monitor my intake. My boyfriend is in awe how I look. I hope he likes...I am not really sure. He keeps saying how I look different. he touches me all the time and loves on me. But I hope my new look does not turn him off. Guess we will see.

Brigitte, The good news is that this isn't really dumping...dumping is caused by eating sugar or refined carbs that are "dumped" too quickly into the intestines and cause a spike in insulin and make you sick, dizzy, have diarrhea, etc. You just ate too fast and it got kind of stuck. I have had this happen to me several times. You throw up and then you feel better. You will know when you dump...it is a much worse feeling. Best of luck to you, Cara RNY 2/15/2005 341/310

I have had this happen in one of my earlier meals. It just got stuck for a while. I tried to walk around to get the GI motility moving so that I wouldn't puck. I know how it hurts so bad. You just wonder when it will end and you can get some relief. I haven't dumped yet and hope to never do that. Diana

Hi, I too have had this happen about four times since surgery. Each time it is from eating meat. I don't ever have a problem with anything else. I have heard this will happen as we learn to eat. Good Luck, Mary M.

You eat meat already? My doctor's program says no meat at all for 6 weeks and no beef or pork for 6 MONTHS. I'm suprised that your doctor is ok with meat this early. I wish mine was. I'd kill for a cheeseburger! LOL

I'm glad I'm not the only one who was on liquids for what seemed like forever. Today, I finally had my 4 week checkup at 5 weeks and got the pureed/soft texture diet. I'm a little confused about whether I should follow pureed for a month and then add the soft texture, since he gave me both diets at the same time. I read these posts and have been envious with what some people have been eating and their surgeries were after mine. I made myself a chicken salad out of some cooked chicken and had some for lunch and the rest for dinner. I also cooked a pot roast for the rest of the family. I got a quarter of a potato and a piece of carrot, mashed them up with a little margarine and a smidge of gravy. Heaven! I start back to work tomorrow, so squeezing in time to drink my water and eat will be a challenge. And I work in a deli of all places. Cathy G.
