Anybody else feel like this?
I had my surgery on 2/15 and I am so confused with my pouch... some days I am not hungry at all and other days I am starving. I dont like this feeling. I am scared to eat too much because I dont want to stretch my pouch and not loose weight. If so, what do you do to get past this feeling and hunger?
Thanks everyone,
Brigitte
Brigitte,
Today was my first support group meeting at the Cleveland Center for Bariatric Surgery, where I had my RNY bypass done. Many of the people there had similar situations, often alternating between starving and no appetite whatsoever, so it sounds like your situation is completely normal.
The facilitator of the group, who had her surgery five years ago this month, stressed the importance of maintaining a consistent caloric intake every day, whether you're hungry or not. Your body will react to ups and downs by preserving fat tissue, which will work against you in the long run.
Take your time with meals, but get in your recommended number of calories, including meal supplements if you can't eat enough solid food yet.
Hang in there, Brigitte! You're not alone. There's a lot of us out here adjusting to our new selves. Don't stress about losing weight just yet. Concentrate on getting enough nourishment that you'll stay healthy. Trust your 'tool' and the weight loss will come.
Joe
hi joe, was just wondering what the recommended number of calories is? I am struggling to get in my 1000 calories a day right now because I know if you eat below that your metabolism slows down, not sure what it is for bariatric patience, but I imagined it be the same, less you get in the habit of intaking less.
eating solid foods is not a problem for me, i just don't want to overeat.
