I'm feeling kind of blue. When I went to my 2 week appointment almost 2 weeks ago I had lost 21.5 pounds. I was so excited. The surgeon released me to the next stage of foods (soft foods) and everything is still staying down pretty well. But I haven't lost anymore weight since then. It's been almost 2 weeks & I haven't dropped a single pound. I kind of feel like maybe that's it. Could I be one of those people this surgery doesn't work for? Can anybody tell me why I'm not losing anymore weight? I just don't understand. I drink all my fluids. Although plain water makes me sick, I'm still diluted my juices, or drinking crystal light or propel water. I'm getting in all my protein & taking all my vitamins. I just don't get it. I lost 16 pounds in my first week & a half. Then, I didn't lose ANYTHING for two weeks!!! I was so ashamed, like I had failed. But this week I lost 3 pounds. So, tomorrow is my one month anniversary & I have lost 19 pounds. Not to bad for a "lightweight". I actually started increasing my food intake & that made me start losing again. I was only getting about 700 calories a day & I bumped that up. Good Luck.

How much and how often are you eating? If you are eating less than 800 cals a day, consider raising your cals by 100 or 200. If you are eating less than 3x a day, consider eating more frequently. And remember, you have to be able to pee out your fat, so water is essential to your weight loss. You don't want to starve yourself too much in an effort to lose more weight, so have faith. Eat your protein first and sip your water! I have faith...you'll do wonderfully. Cara RNY 2/15/05 341/311

I'm 5 weeks out. The first 3 weeks I lost 18 lbs. I'm 5 weeks out now and I'm only down 20 lbs so far. Just keep on eating healthy and exercising and you'll lose weight.

Hi Daisy Don't feel bad, everyone body is different. I went to the doctor yesterday for my 1 month visit I only lost 17 lbs. I was fluster by the results especially since I'm not eating much. However I did start walking 2miles a day and have increased on my eating. Since I was having a problem eating properly. Just have faith and luck.

Hey Cassandra Girl, I know what you are going thru. I'm 3 weeks out and have only lost 11 lbs so far. Needless to say I dropped quickly into a "Oh my god what did I do to myself" and then thank god the benefiber started to work. It seems my problem was constipation. My surgeon says you should be going at least every 3 days. I went 9 days. Full of it I guess. Just hold on, it's coming off. Your body has to adjust before it takes off running. Good Luck Temeka

You need to remember that our bodies go into shock after surgery, and go into starvation mode. During starvation mode, our bodies fight to hang on to every bit of our weight and calories that we take in. Plus, it conserves energy by making us sleepy and tired so that we rest (to conserve the energy). You have to fight against the tiredness by exercising at least a little every day and just keep eating the way you were told to by your doctor. Once your body realizes that it is not going to get more food, the weight will start coming off. How much time that takes is variable for every person, and that is why we shouldn't compare ourselves to how others are doing. The first month might be slow for one person, and then the next month the weight just falls off. For another person, it might be the other way around, with the first month having more weight loss and then slowing down the second month. The only way it won't work for you is if you are drinking high calorie shakes very frequently in addition to eating too much food. Focus on getting in your solid proteins first. Doctors differ in their opinions on whether or not to use protein shakes, so follow your doctor's instructions. If you are having problems with mental hunger, talk about it with the doctor's dietician or a therapist, or discuss it here on the board. I know I had terrible mental hunger the first two weeks, and now it has subsided. It gets worse on the weekends when I used to go out to eat a lot. Hang in there, do what your doctor tells you, and know that it WILL work! Cris RNY 2/17/2005 270/239/150?

Hi, Cassandra. I know exactly how you're feeling. I had my one month checkup yesterday and am having the same problems you are. All the advice you have been given on this site is exactly what my doctor told me. Exercise and water. Keep up the protein and be sure to take the vitamins. My doctor said to have 4 meals, and watch the calories. I'm not supposed to eat more than 2 to 3 ounces per meal. I was eating too much, and taking too long to eat it. My surgery was Feb. 7 and so far I've lost approx 35 pounds. The way we should look at it is those 21.5 pounds that you have lost, you'll never have to worry about them again. (That's two bowling balls!!!!!) Good luck and God bless you. Kathy
