How Are the Febbers Doing?
Jeanie, Whoa Who!!!!!! Now that is. I'm 3 weeks post-op as of today 3-16-05. I've had nausea 2 times. Once in the hospital and once when I went to long without liquids(overnight). Boy oh Boy it's not good to let the pouch run dry. I did have 2 days of "Oh my god, what did I do". Luckily that didn't last too long. I had some issues with constipation but that was from the pain meds. Narcotics can cause that. But when I stopped taking them and invested heavily in Benefiber everythings just fine now. I've only lost about 12 lbs so far but it's more than I would have lost on my own so I'm ok with that. I've even started looking for the perfect "Little Black Dress". Life is good. My weight has been the biggest issue in my life for years and now that it's not an issue anymore I'll have to find something else to worry about. Well, I guess I could start worrying about the bill I received the other day from The Barix Clinics, $30,600.. Thank God for health insurance.
Good Luck Everyone

Hi! I had my surgery on Feb. 21. According to my scale as of this morning, I've lost 15 lbs. I wi**** were more, but since I had a small set-back (hernia surgery 10 days after my WLS) I just haven't been able to get as much exercise as I should. I went back to work Monday this week - all I do is sit in front of a computer, which is what I was doing at home - and I was ready to kill my housemate, so going back to work was a blessing. I'm eating about 3 oz at each meal. Usually one meal is a protein shake. I'm eating pureed/soft things like tuna, soup, masher taters, cream of wheat, scrambled eggbeaters. I tried pureeing some meatballs - bad move. I was very uncomfortable for hours. The yummiest thing I've eaten was some tortilla soup (without the tortilla strips). I ate the broth out of it and then pureed the rest for another meal. Oh, and green pea soup - sounds nasty but tastes really good. I have a lot of yogurt, pudding and jello but it all tastes too sweet to me - even though it is all sugar-free.
I feel so much better reading these posts. I have been disappointed because tomorrow is my 1 month anniversary and I have only lost 19 pounds so far. I have PCOS and am what they considered a "light-weight" (ha ha), so I knew that I would lose slower than most. I see that several people have lost in the 20's range their first month, so I don't feel so alone. I am finally starting to feel normal. I had Open surgery & my recovery was slow. I try to walk at night, but when I stand for any length of time, my left side starts aching for some reason. I need to ask my doctor what that may be. It is really holding me back at this point. I guess it could be that I'm not getting enough fluids in. I am trying to do better.
Thanks Guys & Girls!!!
Hi!! I am 2 weeks post-op. I feel energetic and just generally good. I am eating 3 meals a day, 1/4-/1/2 c protein (depending on what it is, how dense it is, etc.) and a small veggie or fruit selection. At times, it is hard to get all the liquids in. I drink water, Crystal Light , and have those wonderful sugar free pops. (how many oz of liquid are in those things, anyway??) I have had some head hunger but I realized that was because I was cooking for my family and it was "Dinner Time" so I felt hungry. So, I told my family that I am NOT cooking every night, they'll live!! Anyway, I have lost 16.5 lbs as of two days ago. I haven't been sick, nauseous, depressed, or anything negative. I'm kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop....I have felt more clear mentally post-op, perhaps because the worry over the surgery is now gone. I am not working yet, but will go back a few hours tomorrow and Friday, then to a more normal schedule on Monday. Am planning a little family getaway over Easter break- wasn't sure if I would be up to it, but I think I am. Also have theater tickets for April 2nd, got them a while ago and was wondering if I could handle a trip to NYC, but I think I'll be fine!!
A few things that were snug or tight on me now fit. A nice feeling!! And , to all of you~~~ Nice Going, Everyone!!!
Hey everyone!!
Today I am officially 37 days post op. I had my surgery feb 10th.
I'm down 39 pounds as of this morning.
At my 4 week post last week I was down 34 pounds.
I've gotta tell ya. I've lost 35 and 40 pounds on diets before but my body never felt like it was losing so many inches. I measured last week and I was down 24 inches so far.
I was in a size 26 and can now get into my big 20's. They're alittle snug but that's ok. My favorite thing to do is pull on my old 24 jeans, my favorite pair. No seriously, I pull them on,..still zipped and buttoned hehe I LOVE IT!!!
I am doing well as far as getting meals in,...and haven't had a whole lot of nausea. I thew up some scrambled eggs a couple weeks ago, and just Sunday threw up some chicken but I think my pouch was just being finicky.
I do struggle with fatigue but the doc and the dietician said it is lack of protein. I'd only been able to get in about 35-40 grams a day. So they told me to drink isopure.
I also went into severe ketosis and my dietician told me to drink 24 oz of either apple or grape juice. I'd had liek a 5 day weight stall and once I started doing that I started losing again
My biggest challenge right now is the protein. The fluids are ok I think I'm at about 65oz a day. I also went through what some mentioned the first couple of days, wondering what in the world I had done but now I am so excited!! I KNOW that this was the right thing for me. iwould have already blown my diet ten times over by now.
The thing I miss the most is my pop. I just crave the carbonation. I hope it goes away, if not I am pretty sure that when I am at 3 or 4 months out and the doc clears me I will be drinking diet A&W every now and again.
I haven't exercised much yet, just some light walking. But after spring break I'm joining a gymn with my hubby.
For spring break we're going up to the Dell's to an indoor water park with our kids. Yeah rah I get to get into a bathing suit (NOT) But hey at least I am down 39 pounds LOL
Glad to hear that you all are doing so well!!!!
April
PS ignore typos I am exhausted and on my way to bed
hi jeanie
my date was 2/8/05. i'm doing ok. just still learning my way around the ins and outs of my new life. as of my one month anniv i was down 28 pounds. i'm not doing at all well getting in my protein but just got a shipment of high protein shakes and bars so i know that will help.
i'm feeling slightly nauseous the last few days and think it might be the sweet and low i'm putting in my tea and which is already in the sf ff hot chocolate., etc... gonna try a day or two without to see if it gets better.
i've had a couple episodes with discomfort. i don't usually throw up so am not surprised i haven't thus far. but i tried some fried potatoes and had to stop. too greasy. other than that, it's going fine
i noticed yesterday that my more recent clothes are hanging on me now. it's such a wonderful feeling. and i'm determined to enjoy every step of this process. it's such a life changer.
take care.

Hey Fellow Febbers,
Good to read your posts. Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well, so congrats on that!
I had open RNY on 2/23 and have lost 13% of my excess weight (the surgeon's folks say 8-12% is average in the first month), so I'm pretty pleased with the weight loss.
Sleep is returning to normal (praise the Lord!) and I can finally sleep on my side again. Meals aren't too bad, although I confess to being a bit lazy, not making anything special in order to puree it. The absolute bestest meal I had was the day I graduated from liquids to purees. My wife slow-cooked a pork roast in the crock pot. I pureed 2 oz. of it and thinned it out with some chicken broth. Mmmm-mmm, was that tasty!
The only setback I've had is that, during surgery, the doc put a G-tube into my old stomach. I've had it in for three weeks now and hoped to get it out Monday. The surgeon pulled and pulled, but it wouldn't come out (apparently the internal sutures haven't dissolved yet). Netted out, my guts feel more bruised and battered than they have at any time since I was discharged from the hospital after surgery. The surgeon says he'll try again next week...hope it comes out smoothly.
Good luck to the rest of you Febbers. Let us know how you continue to do.
Joe
Hi everyone,
I'm 6 weeks post op and -36 lbs. Feeling pretty good, but the 10-12 hour work days are killing me. I'm a finance mgr at an auto dealership and sometimes just don't have the opportunity to leave when the clock says it's time.
I feel like I'm working and sleeping. It's hard to get my exercise in even though I really want to do it. Just too tired right now. Did find a really great sugar free energy drink that has 750% of daily vitamin B-12 that really keeps me going during the day--just don't take it too late in the day or you'll be staring at the ceiling half the night. LOL.
Glad to hear everyone else seems to be doing about the same as me. I was worried about my energy level.
