Well, we are all now at least a few weeks out of surgery, some of us a month and a half. I'm wondering how everyone is doing, coping, eating, moving. I'm still battling some fierce nausea about every other day. It started at about 3 weeks. I hate it. When I am not nauseated, I feel pretty good. Things are healing up nicely and I'm almost able to sleep on my tummy. I am sleeping 4-6 hours at night with a couple of naps during the day. I can't wait for the energy burst to hit me. Bring it on! I hope the rest of you are doing well and getting used to your new bodies. Jeanie DS 02/12/05

Hey Jeanie, Glad to hear you are doing well. I have gone back to work (not like I had much choice, I own my own business) full time and I am sooo pooped in the evenings. I have been going to bed around 9pm. I only suffered with nausea when I first got home, but once the nurse told me to quit drinking my drinks cold it went away. I eat about 1/3 cup of food at a meal (pureed) and I stop just shy of a couple of bites, as I don't really get a full feeling (Dr said that is normal right now) I lost 17lbs the first week, nothing sense. Not gonna let it get me down. I hope all our Febbers are doing well, I thank God daily for this tool. Hugs Sharon

I had surgery on 2/15 and really haven't had a problem. 17 days later I had lost 25lbs but 2 weeks after that I have yet to lose. As long as I'm feeling well I quess it'll be okay.

Jeanie, I'm 3 weeks post-op and feeling pretty good, still experiencing some nausea and feeling tired later in the day. Been back to work since last week but feeling drained and have gotten permission from my boss to work about 5 hours a day for the time being. Thank God we aren't real busy right now. As for eating - yuck I don't like food. Gosh, I can honestly say I am not hungry and do not want to eat. I'm having to make myself eat 3 times a day but can only eat about 1/2 - 1 oz. each meal which consist of meat only. Almost doesn't seem worth it, but I know I must eat to stay healthy. I'm able to have leafy vegetables but can't get them in right now. Still having a little problem getting in all the water, 80 oz. is allot. Drinking about 44 oz. a day. I am doing well. I am 4 weeks out as of today. I went to the doctor last week for first check-up and had lost 24 pounds. Today I measured my body and compared to right before surgery. I had lost 19 1/4 inches. Amazing! I have a pretty good amount of energy, but I am in that bed at 9:30 and am asleep by 10PM. I also sleep each morning until around 7:30. I am dead to the world each night and no longer have to take Ambien to make me go to sleep. I always am a little "draggier" on Tuesday because I am due my B-12 nasal spray tomorrow, which I take once a week. I am eating probably 2 to 3 ounces at each meal - mostly protein. I still am not getting in all of my protein. It is hard to eat 6 little mini-meals per day. I am not having a problem with liquids. I am getting in more than 64 oz. each day. I have no negatives at all so far, thank goodness! Carol L

Hi Jeanie and all Febbers! I had my surgery on 2/21 and I feel great! I am able to tolerate everything I have tried and I am finally starting to build my energy back up. I never thought I'd recover this quickly from Open RNY. I'm going back to work next Tuesday. Glad to see that no one is having too bad of a time with recovery. Thank you for asking!! Lori

Hello Fellow Februarians! Glad to hear that all seem to be fairing well. As for me, I am doing very well. I am at a lose of 28 pounds at almost 3 weeks out. My weight loss has slowed down considerably since introducing food. I am hoping to get at least one pound a week to keep me happy though. I tried to keep up a exercise schedule for the morning, but the second day into it (after starting work) I already am noncompliant! I was worried about this happening. I have begun back to work as of yesterday and I must agree that it is pretty exhausting by the afternoon when I used to take a small cat nap. I have been going to bed even before my children most nights ( of which tonight will be another one of them ). I am amazed that I have very little problems with any type of food. I did get some pureed sesame chicken stuck due to taking too big of a spoonful and too many in a row. Wow, did that hurt for a short time. I just walked it off and it took about 15 - 20 minutes to resolve. Boy, did that teach me a lesson. I only had nausea once and that was when I ate too much. I just need to learn my limitations. I am glad to say that I did not turn lactose intolerant! Yeah! Well, I hope that you all keep writing to let me know how your doing and to see that I am normal or not (don't ask my husband his opinion on this matter though, haha). Diana

Hey my fellow febbers! Im out 3 weeks today, im feeling alright, not too bad, i have my good days...and occasionally my bad days. :/ the norm is i feel "eh" when i wake up, im okay after "breakfast" and then towards the later end of the day i start to get "eh" again. but such as life as a wls recovery patient, lol. Ussually i dont battle any nausea, except as of late when i have one of my protien drinks, their okay, ut i guess their just getting to me so i have stopped drinking my atkins ones and started using the SF carnation Inst. Breakfast ones...their yummy heh, like chocolate milk almost. I also eat purred cottage cheese, oatmeal and cream of wheat to help keep me eating through out the day. and as a "snack" i have a carb countdown yogurt smoothie. I dont have much pain, just discomfort, but two crushed tylenol do the trick ussually, i stay clear of my perscribed pain meds, they mess me up too bad :X Exersice? well i havent really been told to do anything except walk right now...so i take a lap or two arounfd the house every hour...it keeps me moving and gets in some exercise too, i cant wait till my 6 week check up, because thats when doc tells me if its okay for me to swim or not yet...i love swimming, its good exercise and its not real hard on the joints...my 550, now :D, body kills the joints im glad everyone is doing so well, keep it up :D _mike 623/550/in three weeks :D

Today is my one month anniversary. The scale blessed this milestone this morning by showing a new all-time low...(drumroll please)...minus 30 pounds! I really feel great. I'm able to tolerate just about anything, and I'm able to eat plenty at each meal. I probably eat around 4 ounces per meal, sometimes more if it's watery (like chili or soup). My favorites are chili, refried beans and cheese, tuna fish and canned chicken mixed with mashed potatoes. My big challenge is getting enough liquids in. I feel like I'm ALWAYS drinking! I started back to full-time work and full-time graduate school two weeks and two days after (open) RNY, which was a challenge! I definitely feel fatigued at times, but I've been able to push through. I have youth on my side, though. I really think that helps, and also just a positive attitude that has helped me through the few dark times! I have a pretty good energy level. I'm really enjoying working out again. Today I was cleared to ride a bike again, but I didn't get to take advantage of the sunshine today because I had a final exam. The other thing I've noticed is that I have a hard time concentrating now. I don't know if my body is adjusting to the fewer calories or maybe I'm having some low blood sugar, but I feel like I've developed ADD sometimes. Lol! I can sleep on my tummy fine, which is good, and I'm having relatively little pain. My shoes are way too big, but I wish I had lost more inches by this point - I'm ready for sexy little clothes. That's just me being impatient, though. All in good time... Overall, I feel very grateful that I am on the losing side. I think insurance companies are going to increasingly stop covering this surgery because of the cost, so I'm thankful every day that I managed to get coverage. I really feel like my life is changing for the better every single minute. Glad to hear everyone is doing well!

I'm glad to hear everyone is doing well after their surgeries. I am 4 weeks post op and have lost 27 lbs so far. I can't believe how many of you have gone back to work. My doctor said I could go back to work on the 15th, but I'm putting it off till next week. My energy level is not where I'd like it to be, even after a B-12 shot. I don't know about anyone else, but I hate sleeping on my back! A friend told me it took about 6 weeks before she could sleep on her side. I get about 6 hours sleep, wake up about 4 and then can't go back to sleep. Oh well, I know it will get better soon. I've gone from a size 24 to a size 20, so that makes me happy. I'm not buying an Easter dress till next week, who knows I could be in an 18. I haven't had any trouble with nausea. The other morning something got stuck and boy was that painful, like a tight band around my chest. I can't even put my finger on what happened because I ate my 1/2 cup of thin oatmeal and then about half an hour later had a swallow of water, just like most mornings, but this time it hurt. I can't believe the foods some of you are eating. I was on clear liquids for a week and full liquids for three weeks. I go see my doctor on Tuesday and then I should graduate to pureed foods. Good luck to all. Cathy G.
