Help: Anybody have to take extra days?

I am almost four weeks out and I went back to work a week ago today, starting at half days. I had to take Friday off because I was so light headed and felt ill. I was ill the rest of the weekend, throwing up twice (once so bad I burst blood vessels around my eyes) and I called off work this morning. I was supposed to go back to full days today, and they released the temp last week in anticipation of this. My bosses seem extremely annoyed that after returning to work, I've had to take several additional days off. I am feeling very depressed and worried about my job and missing these extra days. Should I be worrying about this? Should I feel as if my bosses somehow can't stand me now? Have any of you had to take a few extra days after going back? Thanks, Cara RNY 2/15/2005 341/31

I wish I could help you. I go back to work next week. I felt that one month was more then enough for myself to get situated with my new life. I am looking forward to getting out of the house. I did prepare by doing volunteer work before going to work. I hope that I am ready when next week comes. Are you haveing any really bad or sharp pains? I would call your doc and see what they say. I hope you get better very soon.

Hi Cara, I went back to work last week also. I had to stay home on Friday due to extreme tiredness. I also was tired all weekend and spent most of the weekend resting and sleeping. My boss has been very understanding toward the situation though. I called my dr.'s nurse today and she said that the tiredness usually last between 2-6 weeks. I have been approved to work shorter days for the next two weeks if needed. You should talk to your boss about maybe working 4-5 hours a day vs. 8 hours and see if that would help. Hey Cara, I go back next Wed for half day and Thurs half day then Friday full day. Then the following week whole days 7:00-3:00, I am also concerned about being tired. I hope it gets better, I have been going out the past few days, not doing much, but I sleep the rest of the evening once I am in say around 4:00 until 6:00 a.m. the next morning. I pray it gets better for you and I. Michelle

Hi Cara, I went back yesterday. I was very tired that 5th week. I'm still tired, but feeling better. I worked until 2:00 yesterday and I will today too. It is tough getting back into the working day! Barbara RNY 02/08/05

Hi Cara, I went back to work FT at the 3rd week... and man was I tired. Thank God my manager had the surgery so she was very empathetic and allowed me to work 1/2 days... I only had to work 3(1/2 days) and then I worked until my shift was over the remainder of the week. I am starting my 2nd week of work and I am feeling fine. It helps me to drink my fluids and protein... for some reason I have more energy. Good Luck sweetie- I hope it gets better for everyone. Brigitte

I'm not working, but if I were I'd have had to go home or stay home several days in the last 2 weeks. I have good days and bad with nausea and weakness. Do you have sick days so you are covered money-wise and work-wise? If the bosses are annoyed, they will get over it hopefully. Can you talk to them about this? Be sure to keep your docs informed about your health and your days off in case you need some documentation. You had major surgery. This wasn't some piddly procedure. I hope your bosses find some understanding and that you feel better soon. Jeanie
