LADIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was told that oral birth control pills weren't as effective after WLS due to absorption problems. I weighed too much to try the Ortho-Evera birth control patch, you have to be under 190 pounds or something like that. I was not a canadate for the depo provera birth control shot, I'm not sure why. So... my doctor (GYN) put me on the NuvaRing, it's this vaginal ring that you insert into your vagina and it goes up around your cervix. It's coated with horemones and stuff. Anyway you leave it in for three weeks and then take it out for a week, then insert a new one for three more weeks. ..... the reason I am writing is..... I had in for my first 3 weeks and took it out last night and I have cramped ALL night and all day today BAD!! Has anyone else tried this NuvaRing? I don't want to try it again!!
HELP!!
My Dr. made me go off the pill, so I am just using condoms again. This is my first period off the pill in about 11 years. It hasn't been as bad as I remembered it in my teens. Kudos to you for trying something new, but if you had this reaction, I think I would not continue with it. My advice would be to consider condoms...it's easier than a lot of other methods especially when our bodies are changing so much.
Good luck!
Cara
According to the ortho Evra product insert, the weight listed was 198 pounds. According to your profile, you are getting very close to that. It does, as weight goes up, slightly lose it's effectiveness, as absorbption can be affected. Only you and your doctor together can make a choice that is right for you. Usually, you have to give a new pharmacuetical method 3 months to know how it is really going to treat you. If you change hormonal methods every month, you can really get things messed up! But, if it is that bad, I can see why you wouldn't want to keep trying it. Since you can't take NSAIDS now for cramps, you could try one of those heat patches. Don't forget Tylenol, it can be effective as well.
I've used the NuvaRing for about a year. Different birth control gives different pre-menopausal symptoms and periods (heavier/lighter, crampy/non-crampy) for different women, but these can adjust over time, especially at the beginning. I'd give the Ring at least another month. In any case, you should ask your OB/Gyn. My OB/Gyn recommended giving my body a few months to adjust from one method to another, and then I was totally fine.
I am switching from the BC pills to the shot (Depo Provera) starting next week, I tried the BC pills after the surgery but I do not think they are working well, I got some cramping off and on through the last 2 weeks or so, but no period yet. I will be MUCH happier with one less pill to swallow! I HATE swallowing pills since surgery (yes I only do tiny ones) I cannot stand crushed pills even mixed in anything - I can still taste them and the texture - makes me puke. So I bought a pill splitter and split any non-chewable pills into small bits to swallow lol.
