1 month out visit with my excercise physiologist

Today I had my visit with the exercise physiologist for my metabolism test and underwater weighing 1 month out. Got some great results from this! I'm down from my high of 416 before surgery to 372, a loss of 44 lbs. My fat loss is 44.6 lbs, and I actually gained .6lbs of lean mass! This is a great result because at 1 month out most people lose 25% and 50% of their weight loss from lean mass loss, to actually gain lean mass is very unusual and means that I'm on the right track with my exercise program. My %body fat went from 50.5% fat to 44.5% fat, a loss of 6%!!!!! (The average due to the loss of lean mass is less than 2%!) The only negative from the visit is that my metabolism lost another 300 calories a day to 1771, 600 calories under what the baseline prediction is based on my lean mass. If this continues, I'll need to go in for thyroid testing. John

Right now I'm doing 5 days a week on the treadmill at 2MPH on level 2 of the hill program (the incline of the treadmill varies between 0 and 6% incline) for 30 minutes. I've been increasing my stamina up to now, and plan on trying to increase my speed now up to 3-3.5 MPH, then I'm going to try to take the level of the hill program up some more. I'm still on lifting restrictions, so it will still be a month or so before I can add a weight-lifting element to the workout. I'd really love to add a swimming component, but unfortunately I don't have pool access.

You are doing so well, John! I'm very impressed that you GAINED lean muscle mass - that's hard to do at this stage of the game. You're just a regular rockstar! Just wanted to add that if you're at all suspicious about your thyroid, go for the testing with a smart endocrinologist. The guidelines for what qualifies as a thyroid disorder have actually changed in recent years - what used to be normal now gets treated. I take a low dose thyroid supplement myself, and it makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE in my energy and my weight loss. So just be aware of that if you start noticing that your weight loss is slowing. Congratulations on your success to this point! Enjoy the exercise and find a pool if you can. Swimming is such fun - only two more weeks until I'm allowed back in the pool.

If you look at my second post (3rd post in the thread) it says what my current excercise regimen is. John
