What are you eating?
I am a bander i don't see much of us on this board, but I was liquid for the first 3weeks then I skipped the pureed phase and I am on soft foods like cottage cheese and tofu and scrambled or soft-boiled eggs. I was told no more then 4oz 3 times a day and I have to drink plenty of water and i can have my protein shakes in between. YUCK!! I am doing well I have lost 32lbs in 35 days.
Hi Lori -
I thought I'd post the diet that my surgeon had me on for the first 2 weeks post-op.
7am -
1/2 c Carnation Instant Breakfast (sugar free) made w/skim milk
1/2 c Sugar free Jello
10am -
1/2 c diluted fruit juice (1Tbsp juice to 2Tbsp water)
Noon -
1/2 c smooth, no sugar added, low fat "light" yogurt
1/2 c broth
3pm -
Sugar free Popsicle
6pm -
1/2 c strained cream soup made w/skim milk
1/2 c low sodium V-8 juice
*******
The pureed diet I switched to after my first post-op visit is as follows:
7am -
1/4 c dry oatmeal made w/ 1/2 c skim milk & 2 tbsp skim milk powder
10am -
1/2 c light yogurt & 2 tbsp skim milk powder
1pm -
1-2 servings of protein (1 oz of fish, chicken, turkey or tofu - or 1/4 c egg beaters, or 1 Tbsp smooth peanut butter, or 1/4 c 1% cottage
cheese)
1 veggie (1/2 c of low sodium V8 or 1/4 c cooked, pureed veggies, or 1/2 c pureed soup)
3pm -
1 c high protein drink
6pm -
1-2 servings of protein
1 veggie or 1 carb ( carb serving = 1/2 c cooked cereal or 1/4 c mashed potatoes or 1/4 c mashed peas or 1/4 c creamed corn or 1/4 c winter squash)
I do better when I follow his instructions to the letter. I've also found I have to use baby food for protein - nothing else sits well.
Good luck Lori!!

Hi Lori -
Yup - the selection has been good - although I've had to play it very careful. Cottage cheese, tuna, chicken - all protein seems to stick - or just not sit well.
As for the baby food... I've been buying all natural ones - either organic or there is one other I found with no additives - just the meat or vegetable and water for processing. (sorry I don't remember the brand) Taste... well... with some cracked pepper and a little salt - it's all tolerable to me. I try to stick with turkey or chicken for protein - and then carrots, green beans or butternut squash for veggies. Fruits aren't part of my diet yet. The green beans only come in the larger containers (or mixed with all kinds of stuff in the organic ones) - so I measure it all out. I've stayed away from potatoes (white and sweet), peas and corn. I'm nervous about loading my day with carbs - even if the amounts are so small (2 oz serving).
Hmm - as far as eggs/egg beaters go... blech!! I used to be an egg beaters lover - now I can't even think of them without my stomach turning!! unfortunately - it's the same with real eggs too!
Good luck tomorrow!!

Hi Lori,
Nice to meet another 2/28/05 rny!! I just went for my first post op visit today and got to advance to full liquids!!! Had my first taste of cream of chicken soup (liked the broth strained from chicken noodle better) and tried about 2 oz yogurt. So nice to add to the pretein drinks, jello and broth!!
May we all have a wonderful "losing" journey
Take care,
Melinda
PS I'm down 11 lbs too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Melinda.....nice to meet you.......CONGRATULATIONS on those 11 pounds. I go for my first post-op appointment on Thursday.....and have no idea how much (if any) I have lost. LOL....it was also funny to see someone excited about full liquids since I have been so blah on them. I started them on the day after discharge from hospital......and will be glad to move on to something else.....
