I am starting my third week, and still having problem taking in water or fluids, when I drink it feels like a led ball hits my stomach, with a wird pain for about one min. with this feeling i dont think I get all the fluids I should be taking in. I can do the crush ice and dont get that feeling but i should beable to drink. I would think. Can any one relate to this and have any advise. I am losing about a 1 Lb. per day but i feel if i could drink more water i could be doing better. Thanks Marilyn

I did have that problem. I was drinking too fast. So I figured my belly was about the size of my little girl's belly. why not do what she does. I used one of her sippy cups. And I started to learn what a sip was. I wasn't drinking to little and I wasn't drinking too fast with it. Give it a try. Heather Clapper

i use a sports type bottle, and only keep the pop top open the slightest bit, that or i use a reall skinny straw...either way works wonders for me, ive triedd to just sip out of a cup, and i wind up feelin like i have lead in my stomach from drinking too much to quick.

Hi Marilyn, I agree, I find that I have pain when I take to big of a drink. I reminds me to slow down. I am 3 weeks out and still tying to get all of my liquids in. Good Luck. Mary M.

Hey Marilyn I am 2 weeks out and yes I can relate, I started off being able to drink a litte cold now anything ice cold hurts my pouchie. I started doing hot chocalate, hot lemon tea and green tea, and I can drink warm stuff pretty good, SF hot chocalate with a little skim milk mixed with the water is my new best friend. I don't even add ice to my protein shake anymore, I can get one of those down every morning. Popsicles hurt also, I like the taste but the feeling afterwards is icky. Hope this helps Michelle

Along with drinking too quickly, the pain can be caused by drinking something or eating something too cold. The quick burst of cold makes our tummy cramp up--that could be a part of what you're experiencing as well as drinking too much too quickly. Try room temp. water if you think this is part of your problem...or hot tea. Don't forget tha****er isn't the only thing that counts as a fluid! My doctor has cautioned us from using sports caps or straws because they allow too much air into our pouch which over time can cause stretching; same reason we're supposed to stay away from carbonated drinks. Hope this helps a little! Susane Lap RNY 2/21/05 320/258 (-22 post-op)
