I had surgery on 2/28, came home on 3/2, slept most of the day after I got home...and then 3/3 I got up and started moving about the house...enough to get those required walks in, but nothing major. I am taking my vitamins, and eating slowly..... Today I have had: Breakfast: 4 oz carb countdown milk w/ 1 scoop elite protein powder, this gave me 29 grams of protein and 162 calories Lunch: 4 oz carb countdown milk w/ 1 scoop elite protein powder, same amount calories and protein. Dinner: 4oz cream of mushroom soup, strained, AND sugar free jello cup, which added an additional 70 calories. I am drinking my water, and have licked on a sugar free popcicle in between today....so far I only have in about 30 oz water. I have had no nausea or vomiting, only a little gassy. I am starting to have head hunger, and my husband fixed cornbeef and cabbage for him and the kids tonight...... any way, to get to the point...am I taking in way too much for 4 days post op? I don't know what I weigh....I got rid of my scale a long time ago...and they did not weigh me before I left the hospital. I am so scared that I am going to be the one that this does not work for.....any advice?

Lori, My Dr. said the pouch is 2 oz. in size, about the size of an egg. He wants us to only eat two oz. per meal. It is the bulk, rather than the weight, that he is concerned about, so I measure everything, and eat only that. I would perhaps eat the jello at least an hour after your meal. Try eating soups-any kind, get the goodies and leave the broth for a liquid. Chew, chew, and take thirty minutes to eat. Limit it to 1/4 cup, and see how that is. And, before long, you will be able to eat that corned beef! Hang in there!

Oh...I promise that I am taking a while to get it all in. LOL.....yesterday was the worst day I have had....the others have been okay, but I started out yesterday morning not being able to get the protein in....ended up vomiting the small amount that went it.....and started hurting, so I took some of the Lortab Elixer....first time since I came home...and it zonked me out....so by like 9pm last night....I had attempted my protein w/ carb countdown milk, but been unsuccessful in keeping it in, had sipped on MAYBE 20oz of water, and had 2-3oz cream of mushroom soup....I was miserable...... As far as the chew chew chew goes....I have not had anything to chew chew chew since two days before surgery. I would love to try...and can't wait until my first post-op appointment on the 10th, when he will start me on soft proteins. UUUggggghhhhh....maybe that will make a difference in how I feel...and give me some energy....cause today, its hard to move even.

Lori: I also had surgery on 2/28 and have been eating in a way similar to yours so it sounds great to me! Sorry about you not feeling well, though. My Dr. recommends 2 protein drinks (breakfast and lunch) and a soft protein for dinner (egg, tuna, cottage cheese, etc.) for the 1st week. So I've had the protein drinks and really enjoyed the soft protein cause it gives me something to chew. I did make the soft protein something to have in the am when my head hunger is the worst and have protein drinks for the rest of the day. I've been inching up on more soft protein and less drinks and today I feel pretty crusty so back I go to more protein drinks and less to chew. Keep up the good work and soon we'll both be able to eat corn beef - don't know about the cabbage, maybe green beans?????? Enjoy. Renee
