trying not to feel discouraged

Ok, I am one month post op today and am only down 10.6 lbs and I feel like I am so far behind everyone else! The first week post op I was down 9 lbs but then developed an infection in my incision and ended up gaining weight. The infection has healed but I do still have sutures that are trying to work there way out of my incisions. I finally got my digestive track working correctly this weekend without the need for "assistance" to have a bowel movement. The scale has finally started moving but I have only lost 3.5 lbs this week. I am eating about 800 calories a day 60-80 grams of protein and a minimum of 64oz of water.

Don't you dare feel discouraged. It takes courage to have the surgery. Everyone is not the same and don't take it so serious - the scale will move. Your health is way more important - now that you have a few medical needs cleared-up you will do fine. Give yourself a little more time. Okay.

Try not to fret... you're doing everything right! I know how you feel, my first week I had a giant loss, and the past 2 weeks very very little. I was really bummed out about it, but I think it's a big adjustment for the body and it hasn't quite figured out what it's supposed to do yet! Also, when first your calories/intake are so restricted, your body will think it's being starved and will hold onto every calorie. Soon it'll become the "norm" and you'll see the pounds going down on the scale. Just keep up the protein, fluids, and supplements. Have you been exercising? I haven't really started yet, but I feel that would help the weight loss, so I'm going to try starting tomorrow or Friday. Marie 295/272/ goal 145

Dear Kim, Oooooh I know how you feel. I had my 1 mo appt a couple of days ago and even though I had lost 22 lbs the first two weeks, I had only lost 1.5 over the next two weeks. The surgeon was NOT pleased and I was grilled about what I may have been doing wrong. On my program I can only eat 3 meals a day of 2 oz of protein and no protein drinks. I couldn't figure out what I may be doing wrong. I've been walking a mile and a half each day too. I finally decided that my body is screaming what the heck are you trying to do!!!!! Make up your mind!!! The hormone levels in the stomach are probably going crazy and I may not lose again until they level out. In the meantime I'm keeping a positive attitude, following my program to a T and joining a gym in addition to walking. (Ya know, it's not exactly like we can say, Oh screw this I'll just do what I've always done We'll NEVER be able to do what we've always done). I am glad however to know I'm not the only one out here that is experiencing a stall in the first month!! It can feel a bit lonely out here, but that's what we are all here for, huh! You go girl, we are going to make it! :>) Pat
