Thought it would be fun to check in and "compare notes". My surgery went smoothly and recuperation has been pretty good. I definitely underestimated how painful it would be though!! LOL I was clear liquids for 1 wk, and have been on full/pureed since then. I have, however, eaten some non-pureed foods cut very tiny and chewed to oblivion. Non-pureed doesn't go down too easily though, too many times felt stuck, so I've vowed to stick to pureed until dr. tells me otherwise. Have lost 23 lbs. so far. But, 20 was 1st week and only 3 in the past week and a half!!!! Frustrating. I think I need to eat more, drink less - my body is in "starvation mode" and hanging onto every calorie. I found it very hard to get in 80g protein, until I found Isopure bottles (40g each). But then for a few days I didn't have much room left for food. Weird, it's only been 20 days since surgery but it seems like so much longer! How have all the 2/9-ers been doing? Marie 295/272/goal 145

Well I am not a 2/9 er I had my surgery on 2-10, but I wanted to jump in My surgery went well, and like you I majorly underestimated the pain. But I am feeling pretty good now. I have NOT Been getting in all my protein. It is hard. I've been eating lots of beans (they taste so good for some reason) cottage cheese, and string cheese , that stuff has 8g of protein in a 1oz stick!! I think my protein is running at about 45 grams, but I get better every week. I started at 284 but when I left the hospital I was 292, I'm now at 261. SO I feel like I am doing great. But I wish I was having more BM's. It feels weird to only have one every few days. Glad you're doing well! April Open rny 2-10-05 284/261/140

Thanks April for responding. Geesh, I am so surprised more people didn't!! Anyway, glad to hear you're doing so great! Congratulations on the weight loss so far! I struggle so with the protein.... I know it'll get easier when we can fit more in, but obviously we can't go too long with the protein too low. I'm not hungry, per se, but I sure am bored with the same few things!! Keep in touch

Hi guys...................I'm a 2/9ner also. I've been doing pretty well. I'm able to get down the liquids and the purree foods also. I entered the hospital at 242 lbs and am now 223 lbs. (19lbs) so far. Compared to how some people have done, I think I'm losing slowly. I try really hard to get all of my protein in daily as well as my vitamins and water. I just started walking on my treadmill daily. I don't go very far, but it gets better every day. Sometimes, even though I'm not really hungry, I crave certain things I cannot have. That is the hardest part for me.

I had my surgery on Feb 9th also. Today I am 4 weeks post op, and I have lost 30.5 pounds. I lost that in the first 3 weeks. In the last week I gained 1.5-2 pounds back. This concerns me. I am trying to get all of my liquids in and my protein, as well as all of the food too. I think this is the hardest challenge for me. It seems like I always have something in my mouth. At times I feel like just guzzeling something cold to drink, but I know I can't. I find this is a challenge in it's self. I do know that it is VERY important, and I will continue to do my best. Please HELP if anyone can, I need some encouragement that this will work.
