hi its me again i thought i had sent this info. earlier but i did not
i am home post op.and doing fine but when i was op on my phy.found my liver was a mess with fatty liver syn. so i had another proc. called a sleeve i will still lose weight but the liver will have to heal before i go any futher.maybe in 3 to 6 mos. i am writing to say this condition was from being overweight for so long caused this. and i was a diabetic for years. i had my blood workup complete every 2 mos. why this wasen't discovered i can't imagine. it would be a good thing to have your liver checked if you are pre-op. loretta
Dear Loretta,
I have a very fatty and enlarged liver too. The Surgeon did not explain it to me and I have wandered what the cause of it was. The surgery lasted 5 hours instead of the 2.5 hours he mentioned prior to surgery and he said the reason was because of my liver. I have been heavy for a long time but I have never had any negative reports on my liver and the condition of it. I believe the surgeon mentioned to my husband that I gain more weight in the central area of my body and this was one reason the liver was fatter. It caused a lot more pain and nausea post op though because the Dr. had to get under the liver to find my stomach and intestines. Yuk!!
The surgeon asked me to try to lose weight prior to my surgery to try to decrease the liver fat. I did loose some weight about 15 lbs but it wasn't enough obviously.
I hope you are doing well after your surgery. I am not familiar with the procedure called the sleeve does that mean they were unable to complete the weight loss procedure and will have to go back in? That is not something I would look forward to. Please let me know how you are doing and I will be praying for you. God Bless you.
