Hey guys - I'm new to this board. Just found it. I had a DS with a vertical gastrectomy on Feb. 3. Was home the next day. So far I'm doing fine. No pain... but just stiff. I found it almost like a full-time job the first week just trying to remember everything I was supposed to be doing. My doctor requires his patients to keep a log of temperature/urine output/medecines/water intake/ food intake with grams of protein-carbs-calories recorded. By the end of week 1, I had a follow-up doctor's visit and learned I had lost 13 lbs. Week 2 is going much better. I'm getting into the swing of things. Now all I have to track is what I eat with grams of protein-carbs-calories and also record my water intake. I even drove my car yesterday for 4 miles ... but boy was I sore! I asked myself the question - if I can track all this stuff now - why wasn't I able to do this before and lose weight on my own without surgery? Like this was only a will-power decision. But it's not. I needed this surgery to get back control of my life. I'm on my way to being healthy ... nothing is going to stop me. Will enjoy meeting some of you our there in the "February" forum.

Congrats Jayne, glad to see things are going well for you. Looks like you will be a big loser real soon...I have thought the same thing,as to why we cant do all the things we need to do to lose weight before we have the surgery and why we are so willing to do them after sugery...I think it must have something to do with knowing that we now have to do it..or there will be consquences(dumping, vomiting). I will know more about the post op stuff after the 17th{D-DAY)...keep us posted.. take care, karen LAP RNY 2/17/05 yikes!

Nice to hear from you. The 17th is coming up quickly. Are you feelling ready or are you nervous? I'll be praying for you all that day. You know - it seems to take forever to get thru all the testing and doctor's visits to get approved for the surgery. Then all of a sudden - it's there. You get so caught up in all the logictical details of the preparation .. I don't think we always take the time to get ready for the actual day. And then - there it is. Bet you'll do just fine. I'm rooting for you!

Hay Jayne, There is a pretty good site that you can track all of you food intake called fitday.com it will keep track of the foods you eat and everything that is in them and give you a chart for each day. Look into it its pretty neet. We can track all this now because we NEED to know what we are eating and what we need more or less of. Before if we didn't so what what was the need. My surgery was on 2/7 and doing pretty good. No soreness since surgery and have lost 14# so far. Good luck in being a loser Sue
