Topic: RE: Hypoglycemia anyone??
I am having the same problem, only mine drops low and then I eat and it is fine for an hour or so and then drops again. I am continually munching on complex carbohydrates to try and keep it up. The doctors say no more than four ounces at a time so how does one eat enough to keep things where they belong. Or well, Iguess it is one draw back to an otherwise wonderful thing. I am about 157 and loving every minute of it. I think a 10 is great and a "4" Way to go Girl!!!!!!!!! Let me know how things turn out with the surgery. Deb

Topic: RE: ZOLOFT...weight gain?
Heidi I just sent you a link to an article about Zoloft and possibly weight gain. ( netnutritionist.com/fa12.htm ) Definitely don't stop the medication without talking to your doctor. See if you can turn things around too by watching what you eat and exercising. Also discuss with your doctor the other symptoms you are having. There has to be some answers to help you. Mary

Topic: RE: Loose Skin HELP............
From what I have read on-line, hospitals cannot use skin from us for skin graphs for others. With regards to PS ... why not call your insurance carrier and asked them for the guidelines and if they are available in text format for you. Kaiser in CA would do tummy tucks IF skin rashes had been documented. They would only remove excess skin, do no muscle tightening or lifting. If you talk to a PS, be sure to ask specifically what will be covered such as: Do they do just skin removal or muscle tightening. Do they tighten/lift the pubic area. Is your belly button removed or do they cut around it and reset in (I'm serious about this one --- a friend lost her belly button because they was so much excess skin. She had not questioned it and was truly dismayed not to have one. If they have to remove it, be sure to ask what they do to reconstruct a new one for you.) Each insurance company is different. Many people have been able to get PS approved because it was termed "reconstructive surgery" needed not plastic surgery which is elective. Good luck. Mary

Topic: ZOLOFT...weight gain?
Hi, I started zoloft about 3 weeks ago for anxiety. I have always suffered from anxiety/panic attacks and finally I decided to get on medication which I have been avoiding like the plague. Anyways, now I have gained 5 pounds in leiu of working out 5 days a week. Sure, my diet hasn't been the best and I could use to drink a little more water, but my diet hasn't changed since the weight gain occurred...it's only been since the Zoloft. I am taking 50 mg once per day. I feel sleepy, tired all the time and feel some increased nervousness and teeth clenching. These apparantly are normal side effects during the adjustment period. This is my 4th week and I am thinking of stopping it. I dont know what to do because i want to ease my anxiety but so far this is just causing more problems....HELP

From everything I've heard, the removal of skin for grafting is an urban legend; most of the time, the collagen in that skin (what makes it 'bounce back') is shot, and because of the unevenness/stretch marks, etc, it's usually not adequate for grafting work, where they have to evenly slice layers off to graft. From most of the stuff I've read, they tend to use skin that's no longer needed (ie: cadavers). They are also doing a lot more work on artificial skin that doesn't have the problems of rejection. I have a lot of extra skin too, but mostly on my thigh area and the area between my armpit and bicep on my arms.. there are a few little pouch areas in other spots, but thigh/arm are the biggest issues I have had, luckily. I've been fortunate not to end up with a lot of rashes, I guess... In most cases, insurance won't cover anything major with this though; I haven't heard of them covering a full plastic surgery or tummy tuck, although I have heard of them covering a panniculectomy where they'll get rid of some of the rolls, but not "fix" the underlying muscles, or 'necessarily' make it 'pretty"... A lot depends on your surgeon, how they bill, etc. (Not asking anyone to mis-bill or misrepresent what they are doing, mind, but a lot depends on what they "call" the procedure that you have done). Best of luck with your coverage fight; hope you can manage to get it covered.. With the battles still facing WLS in general to get it not considered "cosmetic" surgery, I think the chances of them to not consider the followup surgery cosmetic as well, are pretty slim, but they do help complete the inner transition, IMHO (or not so humble opinion LOL). ...Nick

Topic: Loose Skin HELP............
Well I am 17 months out have lost 230 pounds and have flabby arms and thighs with tons of lines and looks deflated and causing rashes UGH!!!! Also not to be gross but my lower feminine area is sagging and lower on top. Anyone have that problem? It's really imbarasing my husband says he doesn't care but how can it not bother him. I try not to let him see it to much. We have been married 17 years and lots of love but it's a issue with me not him. I went to the doctor and got some ointment because desitin wasn't working. I know to document the rashes with the doctor for possible PS. What does insurance usually cover? Humanna is anyone knows. Also I heard some hospitals will remove the skin for thier use for graphs but are those doctors qualified? If anyone can help please let me know . Also my face is sagging it looks like I am frowning and my throat has lots of lines but don't think I will go that route. Thanks!

Topic: RE: HELP!!! potassium
Be careful! I was rushed to the hospital this past Sunday after fainting. When everything was said and done, my Potassium was critically low.... I am eating Potassium rich foods, too. I am hoping that will be enough. My doctor does not want to give me pills yet. She is a big believer in doing this the "natural" way. I have never fainted before, so I was scared senseless when I came to and there were police banging on my door (I was talking on the phone at the time and my firend heard me fall....) Anyway, like I said, just be careful. I know I am being very careful now. Andrea

Topic: RE: OT~ I NEED SERIOUS HELP WITH RITALIN
Joanne, my husband also has ADHD. I found a wonderful doctor here in mass that had Chris fill out a hundred page survey. He says that there are what he calls the big five. ADD/ADHD, OCD, Anxiety, Depression and Bipolar. Having one or more of these can cause you to self medicate with the Big Seven. They are Food, sex, gambling, video games/internet, shopping, alcohol, drugs. He then diagnosed Chris with a severe case of all but a mild unnoticable OCD. He said people dont just have one of the Big Five you have combos of all. He then treated my husband accordinely: Celexa - Depression - once a day Wellbrutrin - Anxiety - three times a day Adderall - ADHD - three times a day Zyprexa - Bipolar - once a day It sounds like an aweful lot but once he began the program, I had a completely different person. The rages are a form of the bipolar. When he would flip out over nothing or the smallest thing. I have been married for 11 years and we are just discovering who we are ourselves and together. (my bypass has changed me I am down to 247 from 456) He couldnt hold a conversation, we would go out to dinner and stare at other people because we had nothing to say to eachother. He couldnt focus long enough to have a conversation. Now that he has been on this program since January 2005 it is starting to get so much better. But let me tell you...he thought to go off it for a week or two because he thought he was fixed and it was nothing short of hell. I cant recommend this doctor enough. His name is Dr. Jeffrey Speller and he has offices in North Chelmsford and Andover Massachusetts. Dr. Speller believes these are chemical imbalances instead of trama/bad childhood etc. I think that it would be worth the ride for you to meet with him. You doctor could at least give you the Adderal or Ridelin but she/he need to give you an antidepressant to counter balance the ADD drug. Hope that this was helpful and if you need any more info send me an email. Would be more than happy to help. Best Regards Lisa [email protected]

Topic: RE: HELP! I need some tips!!!
Thanks Mary! I've lost 81lbs so far and I know I'm not really a failure... I just want to "get there"! I'm sure you know what I mean. I am very happy about the weight that I have lost so far and as fas as my health goes... I'm great! Getting the bulk of my weight off has gotten rid of my diabetes and my high blood pressure. I feel great about that! I guess I'm a little scared at this point because I'm going through some fertility issues which means hormone medications and I'm so affraid of gaining weight with them!! I want to get as much off as possible before the process starts. Weigh****chers is kind of off and on for me... one week I lose 2lbs and the next 2 or 3 weeks I fluctuate and that's with following the program (thank God I'm still down a few pounds from where I started!). I haven't told them that I've had WLS because I just don't want to take the risk of someone not understanding... this is hard enough as it is. It just doesn't seem to come easy and I guess I never really and truly expected it to, but I didn't realize it was going to be this hard either! Carbs are a problem for me too, though I've managed to curb them a lot here lately... I'm trying to pretty much take them out of the every day picture (though not getting rid of them completely). I'm bored at work too and I know that has a lot to do with the desire to snack during the day. I will keep you all posted on my progress and thanks for the encouraging words! I miss everyone... I should never have left!!! Thanks again, Milissa
