Hey Mary! CONGRATS ON YOUR ANNIVERSARY!! Funny how fast that two years went, eh? It seems like a blink of an eye to me but the changes over the last two years are phenomenal. Lucky you that your sleep apnea is gone. Unfortunately, mine is not. Not a weight related thing now, it's physiological and I'm sure when I finally get my rear to the ENT he'll suggest surgery to correct it....sigh....I am just not into anymore surgeries right now. I am sooo happy for you and everyone else that has undergone this amazing surgery for better health....it's just too cool So enjoy your anniversary! Hugs, Andi B. in ohio

Topic: Two Years Out --- Saturday 2/25
Well, I hit the two year mark today. Last night I asked Hal if he knew what today was and he said no was he suppose to know???? I told him to think about it ... then he remembered, gave me a big hug and told me he was so very proud of me. I know I have come a long way in these two years. I no longer have sleep apnea (which had been severe), no more meds for high blood pressure, minor instead of major pain with arthritis, and I can walk. I'm out living life not sitting home dreaming about it. I'm 6 lbs under my surgeons goal for me. Sure, I could lose more weight ... but I am healthy and happy. I have no regrets I had the surgery. It truly has given me my life back and a future ahead of me. Happy Anniversary to all of you too. Mary

http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/02-2004/roster.html I was looking at the roster of members on this board to see familiar names, the number of people and I realized it also showed how many times each of us had posted since we joined this particular board. Years ago, I use to get in trouble at work for talking too much and now seeing that I have posted 1204 times in the last two years I really had to laugh. How many times have you posted? (you don't actually have to post it, just thought it was interesting). Also missing members that many of you asked about may still be around just not here. You can check out their profile and/or e-mail address if available from the above link ... why not write them and tell them to come back and tell us how they are doing. Mary

Sarah, We are right here supporting you on .... you can do this!!! Be proud too of all that you have accomplished so far, you've come a long way and have done well. Have you tried Splenda as a sweetener? I really like it. Even my husband will eat things with Splenda in it. I use it to sweetened berries etc. Even made banana bread over the holidays with it and chocolate chip cookies (they were for the neighbors not us) using Splenda and every one raved. It is equal in measurement to sugar so 1 cup sugar is 1 cup Splenda in a recipe. Hal use to get awful migraine headaches from caffeine on the weekends (he didn't drink coffee except at work). He slowly got caffeine out of his system starting with 1/4 decaf to 3/4 reg, then 1/2 to 1/2, then 3/4 decaf to 1/4 reg, then 100% decaf. Did each a week at a time. Remember that caffeine can increase hunger, cause dehydration, leach calcium from our bones, and irritate the tummy's lining. Getting back to basics is a GREAT way to get back on track and back in charge of your good health. I'm so proud of you. Mary

Actually, my wife also had issues with iron absorption, and they put her on Niferex, which is OTC, except that you have to ASK for it and they keep it behind the pharmacy counter because it's toxic to kids at that level. The "generic" for Niferex or version that's cheaper (because it's OTC it's not covered by many prescription plans, but MIGHT be covered under a Healthcare Flexible spending plan) is also available at Vitalady, same page as the tender Iron, but about 1/2 the price that I remember Niferex being - Each capsule contains 150mg elemental iron (polysaccharide). Generic for Niferex® This iron is only recommended for someone who is distally bypassed or is known to be anemic. (right from her page). Runs about 23 dollars a bottle and my wife is supposed to take 2 per day, but has helped her out.. I would check with a doc or hematologist, but again, this is supposed to be easier on your system than a lot of the other ferrous compounds.. Best of luck with the iron issues... ...Nick

Annette, Sandy is a very dear friend of mine. She is extremely knowledgeable and when I saw your post earlier, I sent her the direct link to it. I'm so glad she posted to you. I trust her information as I know she truly had done a great deal of research. Hope you find answers soon along with solutions that will work for you. Hugs, Mary

I don't know that all who get iron infusions are later able to absorb their iron, I know many from a Yahoo grad group who have to have the infusions on a routine basis. I have my doubts that a slow FE iron tablet would do you much good because of your altered anatomy. We pass things through too quickly and as a rule do not get benefit from timed or slow release products. One iron that I might suggest is Tender Iron (Iron Carbonyl) from Vitalady.com as many post-ops have had excellent luck with it bringing up their iron numbers. I had a ferritin of 12 and have been on that with successful results. I started off taking 300 mg daily (2 divided doses) with vitamin C for best absorption. I assume that you know that iron has to be kept separate from just about everything except C in order to be absorbed. I take one of my doses in the middle of the night and the other first thing in the morning. No calcium within two hours of iron, plus several others things that are not compatible. Is it possible to see a hematologist locally so that you can get treatment faster and be on the road to feeling better much sooner? Sandy
