Topic: RE: NEW YEARS UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree that it's tough to think that you're not in the normal body fat range. At the same height, I wear size 10 slacks and a S/M top so you're even thinner than I am.
I had a body composition test done at the YMCA last night, and I'm not sure it came out correctly as it indicated that I still have 48.8% body fat. Is that even possible when I only weigh 150 lbs? I know I don't have much muscle, but still that much fat?
Anyone else ever had one?

Hey guys, you asked for it, you got it! My before and after pics are finally up on the site!! WooHoo! Just to clarify because people always ask. I had my FIRST surgery in Oct 2001. I had the vertical ring and then I had a REVISION in Feb 2004. I have lost 204 lbs, total! Down from 386 lbs in my before, taken the day before my first surgery, down to 182 lbs currently, (184 in the after pic!) and on my "weigh" down to 146 lbs, real soon!!!
Hugs and kisses to you all and keep up the good work, it's worth every second!!! Love, Sandra 386/182/146?
Topic: RE: NEED PROTEIN
Delainya,
I don't use the drinks or bars, either. I think if you get 2 good meals with 3-4 oz protein, that should do you fine. It's just important to find meats that you like and can tolerate. I love fresh fish and seafood. I also eat a lot of roast beef and pork as well as steaks and chops. Ham for me is fine as long as it's not deli thin (can't chew the small stuff as easily, I guess), I like a good meatloaf, but I don't do well with chicken. It's all individual, but I found something online that said you can get all the protein you need a day in 6-7 oz of most lean meats.
When your lunch and dinner meals have that much protein (3-4 oz each), there's only room left for a few veggies, so you are basically eating as well as you can.
That's my only advice to you and it's based on how I eat, so take it with a grain of salt.

Topic: RE: birth control pills
Hi Rachel,
I don't know if this will hel*****t.. But I am on the patch. I LOVE IT. I would never go back to the pill again. As long as you are under 198lbs you can safely go on the patch without a problem.
But as the others have said I would check with your Dr. and see what he/she says.

Renee,
Nice to hear from you again. Here are my answers.
SURGERY 2/17/04
START WEIGHT: 241
RIGHT NOW, 1/3/05: 147
GOAL FOR THIS YEAR: 135?
My goal initially was to be at "ideal" but I'm not sure that will happen. My next purchase is going to be a body fat % scale. I wear size 6 jeans and S/M tops and am having a hard time believing I'm not in the normal body fat range even though I'm still so heavy. My goal may change when I find out how 'fat' I really still am.
I'm also considering some PS, but won't do it until I find out for sure if my sister is going to be able to carry a baby to term. She's asked me to be a surrogate in case she continues to have trouble, and I won't do any PS before I find out about that.
The next goal (after my half-marathon this Sunday) is to do a triathlon this summer, so pretty soon I'm going to get my butt into the pool.

Severed ties with an old friend. Over the years, our paths took very different turns. It seems she became very dependent on me, which scared the @#$% out of me. I finally stood my ground and asked her to quit calling me.

Describe your hair loss during the past year.
Started loosing hair at about 4 months out but it started growing back in at about 6 months. I didn't have much to begin with.
Describe your hair now.
Short and spikey (updated style... my two teen age daughters keep mom up to date!). Seems to be very healthy.....I guess its the protein kicking in. I do have some silver coming in up top but it doesn't bother me. I shall age gracefully!
Have you updated your profile during the last year on OH?
I just found this site only a few months ago and filled in the profile at that time. I wish I had started journaling at the beginning. There were/are so many feelings and changes I wish I had written! I need to update my profile and add pictures....that will be my number 3 New Year resolution!
Have you read other profiles of Feb. 2004 brothers and sisters?
Yes, I enjoy reading everyone's. It's great inspiration!

Topic: RE: birth control pills
Hi Rachel.
I was on the pill, Ortho Tri-Cyclen before and after surgery and have since stopped taking it, because I'm trying to get pregnant. My surgeon did not warn me of any problems or potential problems with malabsorption and bc pill effectiveness. They did not recommend I switch from oral contraceptive to shot or patch. It worked for me. After surgery, it took a while for my period to kick in again, so I had to wait to start the pill back up...it was recommended I stop the pill 2 weeks before surgery. I was on the pill for about 6 months until I stopped taking it in November. Let me know what you find out. Good luck.
