Sarah, At the end of your posts, you will see a "search" button. Click on it and it will show you the last 100 messages you posted/responded to. You really should contact your surgeon too if you are losing and concerned about getting below a healthy weight. Yes, it can happen. I know a couple of people at our WLS support group in CA had the same issue and they were told to add in more carbs until they stopped losing. It is a balancing act allowing you to maintain. Mary

Annette, I envy you the family reunion ... how fun. I'm doing good with exercise, using the pool at least once a day and walking too. Weight seems to be starting to go down 1/4 of a lb here and there. Got the junk out of the house, hubby now needs to watch too. So making this a family commitment. Have a great weekend. Mary

Liz, I "hate" those darn sugar alcohols. They really make me ill. For a sweet, crunchy treat I make up a sugar free snow cone. YUMMMMMMM I keep soy nuts in the cupboard too for a good crunch. They are not tempting to me, but are satisfying. Most nuts are trigger foods so I have to be careful. I make a coffee cake from a multi grain Trader Joe baking mix ($1.99 a box). I substitute 2 egg whites for 1 whole egg;, 3 tablespoons of unsweetened applesuace for the 3 Tblsp of oil, and 1/2 cup Splenda for the 1/2 cup sugar in the recipe. Use fat free milk instead of buttermilk or milk --- have used water too instead of the milk. End up with a fat free, sugar free coffeecake ... it does have blueberries in it (unsweetened) so there is a minimal amount of sugar that is natural in the berries and the non fat milk. The recipe is on the side of the box. CAn be easily frozen in single serving pices. Pick whole grain breads instead of white. Eat a sweet potato instead of a regular pototo. South Beach has some great wraps in the refrigerator section at the store. There frozen pizza tho is pretty bad in my opinion. I buy low carb "Mission" brand tortillas and make a sandwich with that. Really good and easy to make. Sam's Club and Costco have pre-sliced deli meats. We buy those and wrap in individual serving sizes and freeze until need. Thaw quickly in the micro or leave out in fridge over night. You can get turkey, turkey pastrami, ham, beef etc. Mary

I haven't been on the boards in a while... Starting to watch my carbs again this week has made me want to plug back in with all of you! I am up about 15 from my lowest weight last spring...goal is to get back and maintain there. I forgot how much "fun" all the protein shakes are! Does anyone have any reccomendations for lo carb products (i work 70 + hours a week, so not so much time to cook!) that have no sugar alcohols in them? Thanks, Liz 245/163/145

Annette, Prayers are greatly appreciated. My sister's name is Karen. The test you are referring to is the CA 125 which is a blood test. It is NOT a diagnostic test tho as commonly believed. It is a tumor marker which tells the doctor whether or not current treatment is working. There have bot LOTS of e-mails floating around about it, but it again is not used as a diagnostic test as many believe and as is stated in the e-mails. This CA 125 is used for ovarian as well as uterine cancer according to the American Cancer Society. Here's the info about the test that was on the Urban Legion site .... CA-125 is what is known as a tumor marker; it is used primarily to track the effectiveness of treatment for women who already have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It is also used, along with transvaginal sonography and regular pelvic exams, to screen for cancer among women determined to have a high risk of developing ovarian cancer. Unfortunately, CA-125 is an unreliable cancer screen. It returns a high number of false negatives (some ovarian cancers do not raise your CA-125 levels) and false positives (many benign conditions elevate your CA-125 levels). Furthermore, studies indicate that CA-125 is even less reliable at detecting early-stage cancers than late-stage cancers. The email indicates that Carolyn Benivegna's CA-125 levels were elevated, but it also says that she was diagnosed with Stage III cancer. There's no way to know if her levels would have been noticeably elevated before her cancer progressed to this stage. She advises us, based on her own experience, to rely on CA-125 as a regular screen for early-stage cancer. But she offers no evidence that CA-125 is effective at that stage; even her own cancer had progressed past it by the time she was tested. None of the following organizations recommend routine CA-125 screening for asymptomatic women who are not at high risk for ovarian cancer: American College of Physicians, the National Institutes of Health, American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Medical Association, American Nurses Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, nor the American Medical Women's Association. I won't be completely gone from the site I promise. I will continue to post, just probably not as often the next 2 months. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up so no one would worry about me. Mary

Topic: Friday Check in!!
Happy friday guys and gals this is the weekly check in. This week I was on a fruit and salad kick. It was too humid to eat anything other than "cool foods". I drank lots of water and chewed my vitamins but to my surpise not an ounce lost, I even swam and walked more. I guess I will have to work harder this week and that I will, I will update you all on my progress. Tomorrow I will definately exercise because it is my family reunion and we hold it in a park where we run around and play games so I will work out alot tomorrow and on Sunday (starting last week) we walk to church instead of taking the car. So during the week I can walk on my breaks. And I want to begin to do protein drinks so I am going to order a sampler pack and let you know how it goes. I hope everyone meets their goals for the week. Annette
