Oh, a formal dinner dance sounds like so much fun, Mary. It has been so long since Mark and I have done something like that. Mark won't dance; however, I love to. He is so reserved when it comes to drawing any type of attention to himself and we've been married 23 years. I've actually entertained the idea of signing us up for dancing lessons. Maybe if he felt comfortable enough after learning certain steps, he might want to go dancing.

Topic: RE: Does anyone feel guilty?
Hello Julia,
One of my dearest friends before I had wls came to me three weeks ago asking questions about my surgery. Now let me say we were really close before I had wls.I was around 340 and she was about 300.Every week as I became smaller she an I drifted apart. We work together as well. She has been out on medical leave for about 6 months and like I said 3 weeks ago she starts calling me asking questions and tells me she is going to have wls.She invited me out to lunch with her an her husband. So when I get there I see her and she must weigh a good 400 plus pounds. We were in a booth an she looked stuffed in and hanging out everywhere. Her husband was very concerned about the wls and he hadnt seen me since my wls.
My heart was breaking for her because I still remember how It feels to be so heavy. I could see how desperately she wanted to lose the weight.I was so happy to be able to provide them both with answers. Her husband said he felt better about her having wls now that he has seen me and we've talked about it.She kept saying doesnt she look great, her husband said he'd of never recognized me on the street. Anyway we connected again we had been chatting online and calling each other everyday since.I see her online and say hello about 3 days ago and she blows me off.I was hurt and I asked her if something was wrong later that day on the phone. She gets this really sarcastic tone and tells me her insurance doesnt cover wls. So I told her there are many different things she could do to get it covered and she just blurts out " I will lose it the old fashion way, you took the easy way out"It hurt me but I know its just that she is jealious and miserable so I will give it a few days and try again.Offer to go walking with her or something if she blows me off again then that will be that.
My mom makes comments all the time too now about how fat she is and its not fare that I am smaller than her now( jokingly)yet I know that she really does feel like that now.I try not to feel guilty because this by know means was the easy way out an I have worked hard to get where I am today. I will probally have a tummy tuck around October if I can get the finally 25 pounds off I want to lose.
So yes I do feel guilty sometimes because I remember how I felt being super morbidly obese.I just keep positive and try not to talk about wls much anymore.
Take Care Trisha
Topic: Question of the Day - Sunday
I just got home a while ago from a WLS support group formal dinner dance. We had a wonderful time. It felt so good to dress up and go out and really enjoy ourselves. So many were wonderful dancers. Hal and I have often talked of talking lessons but have never have.
Question of the day: Do you like to dance and if yes, when was the last time you went dancing? Have you ever taken dance lessons? (OK, I know this is more than one question ... LOL)

Hmmm.... This is a tough one for me. I don't do crafts, though I think I would enjoy doing many types of crafts. I think what my problem is, is that by the time I get home from work, get supper ready, straighten the house and do yard work (during the spring, summer and fall) and help my high schooler study, I'm too tuckered out to do much else. During the weekend, I'm usually cleaning house and grocery shopping on Saturday, and Sunday is church in the mornings and getting together with family later. Now during the summer, I clean house and grocery shop throughout the week so that I can lounge around the pool all day Saturday (yes, I know..... there's something wrong with me... I just can't justify lounging around the pool if something needs to be done inside), and family usually comes over Sunday to swim and grill out.
I do love to watch shows like Trading Spaces and the HGTV channel. I have to get decorating ideas because I have absolutely no talent when it comes to thinking of a decorating idea on my own.
Oh, I just though of something..... I love to read! I usually have a book around at all times. There... I do have a leisure time activity. I was beginning to worry!
Sorry so long winded.... Wanda
Topic: RE: Plastic Surgery
Hi Samantha,
I am having my first consult with a plastic surgeon teaching at UCLA Medical School. He comes highly recommended by 2 of my friends who had him do breast construction after mastectomy. They couldn't say enough good things about the surgeon and staff.
I know that it is a law that insurance has to pay for breast reconstruction after mastectomy (no matter how long) including the other breast. I want the other breast taken so I don't have to worry about cancer returning. He does what is called tram flap where there are no implants. Tissue is taken from "areas of excess" and breasts are made and transferred to the chest wall. He can take tissue from whatever area he chooses. I've heard that ovaries can be removed with this procedure if we uses the stomach. I want those guys out too. I want never to have to go through the physical and emotional trauma of cancer. I hope he'll be willing to do these things. I have to make it seem like it was his idea all along!!!
From what I have read on the main board the best way to go is a lower body lift that takes care of thighs, butt, stomach. But, it is very expensive. I've heard $11,000+. There is no way I could do that as I am on long term disability. I have lost 179 pounds and am 5 pounds below goal. I too have hanging skin galore everywhere. It's my face and neck that are so ugly -can't cover it up like hips or stomach. So I hope the surgeon will work with me. I am very grateful for whatever he can do. My daughter says she'll pay for my face if we can do it section by section!!
I wish you good luck in finding a plastic surgeon who can help you get rid of the skin YOU want removed -not what the insurance has decided.
Sorry Samantha for being so long winded. In answer to your question -I am going through the same thing. I bet many people are in our boat. Keep us updated with your progress.
Please think positive thoughts on my Tuesday consult. For some reason I am really scared and feeling you backing me up will help out.

Debbie,
Sending you some AZ sunshine your way. It is a beautiful day here and is suppose to get up to 86 degrees.
In our free time we do a lot of exploring of the area --- museums, parks, zoo, botanical gardens, events, or just going for a ride. One of our biggest passtimes over the last 9 months has been watching our new home being built. We are now almost to the finish line (11 days) and can't wait to move in.
I love doing machine embroidery, decorative painting, crocheting, latch hook etc. I'm a very craftsy person. My mom encouraged it when we were children and it has grown from there.
I love HGTV. So many wonderful shows.

Okay, I guess I'm bored today. It is raining here.
What is your favorite thing to do with your *leisure* time, or what do you do for a hobby?
I love to smock, sew, embroider, but don't have enough time to do that, and I love to watch HGTV for decorating advice. Favorite show is Divine Design.

Ok--I'm always the different one. We have a really small family. My Dad is deceased as is most of my grand parents. It's only me, my Mom, my sister & a neice. (we couldn't have kids) I don't play well with adults, so owning a daycare center, I play candy land, memory games, jr monopoly...get the point. I do like to play word games against the computer. My husband is a truck driver, so he has long hours & when he is home--he is usually asleep.

Monopoly - ptoooey!!!
Euchre is a game played with a partial deck of regular playing cards. You only play with 9's and up. Each player is dealt 5 cards and you bid on what suit you want it to be and how many tricks (or hands) you believe you can take. It's a little complicated at first, but easy once you get going and it's VERY popular here. People play it on their lunch hour.
Spoons is much easier and family friendly. You lay spoons out on the middle of the table - 1 spoon less than there are players.
You pass out 4 cards to each player and then the dealer begins to go through the pile one card at a time. He gets to look at it, decide whether he wants it or not and and he either passes that card to the next player or he can give him one of his and this continues around the table. The dealer wants to pass along cards as quickly as he can. The object of the game is for one player to collect 4 of a kind and grab a spoon. Everyone else is busy still reviewing/passing cards. When they notice someone has taken a spoon, everyone else grabs for a spoon as well. Obviously, someone gets left out and they "get" a letter to spell SPOON. Once you've unfortuantely collected enough letters to spell spoon, you're out and you remove another spoon from the table.
The faster your family can play, the more hilarious it becomes when everyone is grabbing for spoons. It can get wild and there is always someone who tries to fake grabbing a spoon just to stir things up. We always play at at family events since every one from the young to the old can play.
Have fun!

DId you read my post about not liking monopoly? LOL I truely think it is a man's game, or it seems to be around my house.
I played spoons as a child, but don't remember the rules. I learned a new card game while at our Marriage Retreat. It is called back alley. It was fun. I'll have to get the rules again. What is Euchre? I know I have heard of it before. Is a purchased deck of cards, or regular poker cards?
