Topic: RE: Another week has flown by
Hi Mary (and everyone else),
I've finally gotten a chance to check in. I've been out of pocket for the last month or so. I've been out of town for work quite a bit here lately.
Anyway, glad to see you are doing well. Good luck in which ever venue you decide to take. I know you will do well in whatever you choose to do!
I've put on a few pounds since the last time I checked in. I haven't been exercising hardly any at all and my water intake is practically nil. Things should settle down for a while around here, so I'm getting back on the band wagon. I did walk last night, and boy did it feel good! Its so hard to stick to a regular regimen when traveling and I can really tell I haven't. The pounds will creep back on!!!
This week, I vow to get all my water in and walk at least three evenings.
Glad to be back!!!

It is amazing how quickly the time goes by.
How is everyone doing this week? My week went OK. I've been scanning the want ads to see about going back to work. Just not sure what I want to do. A bit frustrating to say the least as I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. It's a bit overwhelming to have many choices now that my weight isn't limiting me like it did before. Can't decide if I want to go back to school, work part time or full time or ???? Anyone else going thru career change attitude after WLS?

Topic: RE: UPDATE...
Life just gets so busy, it's tough to find time to post. I lurk as often as possible. I like peeking in and knowing that you're all doing well. I do wonder about Debbie and JoAnne (remember them from early on?) and how they're doing this far out.
2.5 years post op is good. I stayed at 148 lbs. for nearly 15 months, then gained 6 pounds virtually overnight, but have now stayed stable for another 8 months so I'm hopeful that this was my big re-gain and if so, I can certainly live with that.
In the last 8 months, my youngest child moved into her own apartment, we bought a new house, put in a new pool and I changed jobs. Whooo! I get tired just thinking about all of the changes. The good thing is that I'm now healthy enough to keep up.
One question: I am scheduled for a bladdar lift and a hysterectomy next month; both as a result of the weight loss. Drs. indicate that after losing so much weight, "everything fell." Has anyone else experienced or heard of this?
Love to you all,
Julie
Topic: Friday ... Where did the week go?
This week has just flown by. I've seemed to have lost a day or two I think.
I've come down with a slight cold since returning home, so trying to get lots of rest and fluids. How are the rest of you doing?

Amanda,
Tours/Excursions were expensive so did the tram in Juneau and the railroad in Skagway. The glacier will be next time ... yes, we are already wanting to go back.

Wish I still was there . . . I would've loved to meet you in person. I moved from Juneau back to Southern Cali here about a year ago. I missed you & your posts! I'm happy that you had such a good time . . . did you happen to make it out to the Mendenhall Glacier? -Amanda ;)

Denise,
Thank you. It seems impossible that 20 years has gone by. Hal and I met the first morning at breakfast on our first cruise. Got engaged 3 weeks later over the phone and then married 3 months after that. We joked that we never dated!!!! But he is truly my soul mate and we knew getting married was right for us.
I hope you get to see Alaska soon. The scenery is AWESOME. You will never see anything like it elsewhere.

Annette,
Plan a cruise now, don't wait. Most cruise lines have fantastic kids programs too. We traveled with my sister, her husband, and their 3 year old in January. He pleaded to go to Camp Carnival each day. Some days he stayed all day, other days just a few hours (totally up to the parents on how long the child stays). For late night events, they even have babysitting done in the camp area in most ships. Great way for the family to vacation together but mom & dad to get alone time too.
We have cruised on Norwegian, Royal Carribean, Princess and Carnival (total of 10 cruises in 20 years - our favorite way to vacation). Carnival is our favorite, then Princess. All lines have their pluses and minuses. We choose a destination first OR the port we want to leave from (then pick a destination). I always look at what all ships and cruise lines have to offer before deciding. This time leaving from Seattle was very important so we could spend time with family and friends before and after the cruise. Hal and I meet on the Pacific Princess 20 years ago this week on a cruise to Alaska so it was important to go on Princess and cruise to Alaska. We are members of the auto club so use the travel agent there. I go in and get LOTS of brochures from her and start my research. Also participate on a board on cruisecritic.com. They have great message forums on cruise lines, destinations, questions about cruising etc. Very active site.
All ships have gyms, most have walking decks or tracks. So getting in exercise is fairly easy. We take the stairs as much as possible. So many choices in food too so getting in that much needed protein is easy to do too.

Denise,
Good to hear from you too. How can the baby be almost 7 months old already????? Boy, does time fly by.
On another list I belong to many have joined Weigh****chers to help keep them on track and accountable with their weight. It is a good program. You may not be able to eat all the points in the program, but it helps with motivation and accountability for many.
We just got back from a 2 week vacation to Seattle and Alaska. Trying now to get back into our normal routine. Doing great, just a bit tired.

Topic: RE: Sunday Friday :-)
Nick,
Thanks for posting the Friday thread.
It is hard when we gain. I've heard many (myself included) that are up 5 to 10 lbs from their low weight. Definitely harder to get it off now than before.
When I worked I bought an insulated lunch bag thing that had blue ice pack in it. That way I could bring things that needed to be kept cold. Would that work for you?? If yes, it would allow you to bring protein to work with you and have it readily available.
Can you walk on your lunch hour? That is always a great way to get some exercise in and escape from the work environment even if just for a bit. My main exercise if walking and using the pool.
Have a great week.
Mary
