I'm really sorry you're having so much trouble
I hope you're working on getting a revision or something else to improve your health.
Like I've mentioned before, I'm sure Susan Maria knows there are people who have physical problems tolerating or absorbing. I know I certainly do. But I have issues with people who are sabotaging their surgery purposedly. Those folks were the target of the rant.
I wish you the best!!!

Topic: Noelle Update - July 31, 2005
Update -
6 days after I came home from the hospital (August 8) I was placed in the hospital again for 7 days. I had a massive infection in the Groshong catheter that I get my TPN through. I found out by running a temp of 100.8 and going back to the hospital (I was told that anything over 100 I needed to get back IMMEDIATELY). I was treated with various antibiotics (Vancomiacin is EVIL....makes me itch) After 7 days of every 4 hour Ampicillian and every 12 hours Gentimiacin, I was allowed to come home again with another 8 days following of IV antibiotics at home. I went back to the neurologist this past Monday (25th) and was told that since I had had such an infection and was off the TPN for 7 days (and regressed) that I needed to have a feeding tube put in my intestines. Surgery is scheduled for August 10 at 11:30. I am having either a J-tube or a Peg tube (haven't told me which one yet...yes, I am calling the doctor tomorrow).
Thanks for all of you listening to me rant and cry and rail. I'm not going to say this has been easy, but I am doing the best I can to keep myself up and positive and happy.
I hate to ask, but please, please, please continue to pray for me and my family. My mother has been staying with us and my husband is very patient, kind and tolerant but I think he is getting tired of it. (hehehehe...imagine a husband tired of his mother-in law...hhhmmm)
As you can see I am trying to keep my sense of humor alive and it has helped.
Thanks again
Noelle
Topic: RE: Mayo Clinic study mentioned by Noelle
Geez, didn't know my name would be ina topic line....hehehehe
I too have read the study and like before mentioned, it wouldn't have mattered what I didn't nothing would have helped. I did get nutritional support before and after surgery. Just didn't help.
You are very welcome for bringing it to your attention, I couldn't get on the computer fast enough once I got home to tell everyone.
P.S. Just an update - 6 days after I came home from the hospital I was placed in again for 7 days with a massive infection in the Groshong catheter that I get my TPN through. After 7 days I was allowed to come home again with another 8 days following of IV antibiotics at home every 4 hours for 1 of them and every 12 hours for the other. I went back to the neurologist this past Monday (25th) and was told that since I had had such an infection and was off the TPN for 7 days (and regressed) that I needed to have a feeding tube put in my intestines. Wow! I am glad I didn't read that about 4 weeks ago...she would have gotten a pretty HARSH email from me. I am one of the ones that can NOT take the protein and can NOT take the vitamins. Both make me really, really sick. I have had complications. However, I have had more than one neuroligist as well as internist say that this is NOT my fault. Some people just don't absorb. I am one of those people. This is something that has become a widespread problem. I told my neurolgist about what my surgeon said that "you just weren't taking your vitamins". According to her (and she is the best in the city) it wouldn't have mattered if I was taking 500 vitamins a day, I would still be in this walker and wheelchair. I don't appreciate her for what she said. Not everyone that has these things happen to them is "BAD". Some of us are doing the best we can and have had bad things happen to us.
(shame faced) I guess I will stop MY rant now...sorry, thanks for reading

Topic: RE: MY LONG AWAITED PROFILE UPDATE
Dear Joanne,
I too had fallen off the posting wagon, then I got sick. I couldn't get to my computer quick enough to post. I haven't gained any and am still losing (much to my doctor, and the neurologist consternation). One of the reasons I had this surgery was to get pregnant to have a baby. Can't do that right now.
Hun, don't worry about a 13lb weight gain. In the BIG scope of things, well, darn it you have come a LONG way. This is just a tiny speedbump to the rest of your life.
You look beautiful

Hi Trish,
Could this be how you dump? What had you eaten in the half hour prior to the episode? Have you had your thyroid and blood sugar checked recently? I would ask your doc on Monday if she could order those tests.
Hope you find out soon what the problem is and that it can be resolved easily.
Best wishes to you,
Paula

Yes, I have been having the same problem with dizziness and sweating. At first I thought it was dumping but I wasn't eating anything to make me dump. I think I have narrowed it down to caffiene. Let me know how you're doing. Susan
