Topic: RE: Adipex?
She is 2 1/2 years out. She has lost 145 lbs. and she gained about 10-15 lbs back, which I feel is wonderful. She is getting married in January and wanted to lose about 15-20 lbs and wanted something to help so her doctor prescibed it.

http://www.drugs.com/pdr/adipex_p_tablets.html Am surprised that it is being prescribed IF your friend already had WLS. How far out is she? If over 2 years, has she not lost a significant amount of weight? It may be that they are using it to jumpstart her weight loss and get her back on track. IF she is less than 2 years out, then I am surprised. More information about her situation would be helpful.

Hello, Lee. I don't know if I have a favorite meal. I love linguine with marinara Food in general is good and fine and nice and all that - I'm not obsessed any longer, so I don't have a favorite. Maybe I should be sad? How are you? Denise

Topic: Sticking with the plan
Got a minute? That's long enough to get over how you feel The Wt. Loss Minute by Linda Spangle, RN, MA www.100DaysChallenge.com Great idea: Stick with your plan, even when you don't feel like it Today, I didn't feel like taking my morning walk! In fact, I used every excuse I could think of to convince myself why I should skip it: I'm so tired, I've been traveling, I'm really behind on my work, etc. Also, I would rather go back to bed and sleep a few more minutes. The truth? Right now, I just don't feel like it! I'm a country music fan, and I love that great song by Gretchen Wilson, who croons the words, 'I don't feel like loving you today!' In the song, she chastises her man for all the wrongs he's done, and describes how angry she is about all of it. She even hints that she's thought about leaving him. Then she admits that she really does love him, and plans to stay with him in spite of her frustration. But with each chorus of the song, she proclaims that she doesn't 'feel' like loving him today. We all understand this. So many days, we don't 'feel' like exercising, staying on our diet plans or avoiding the temptation of wonderful foods. Of course, we also have times when we don't feel like going to work or changing a diaper or cleaning the house. But somehow, we do these things anyway, whether we feel like it or not. I think it's because we prefer the outcomes we get as a result. We want a steady paycheck, a happy baby and house that won't horrify a mother-in-law. In the same way, you don't have to feel like eating right or exercising in order to stick with your program. In last week's newsletter, I mentioned that if you're just 'interested' in losing weight, it doesn't take much to distract you. But if you're 'committed' to reaching your goals, you stick with your program, 'no matter what!' Here's rule #2 for staying committed. Don't let how you 'feel' determine what you do. If you're really committed to your goals, make a choice to follow your program whether you feel like it or not. Focus on your actions, not your feelings, and push yourself forward in the same way you make yourself go to work or handle other challenges in your life. And on days you don't feel like doing your diet or exercise plan, do it anyway! Taking a few 'do it anyway' actions each day will add up to a lot of changes over time. You'll also remember what it feels like to use your own power as a motivation tool, rather than hoping that one of these days, you might 'feel' like sticking with your weight-loss plan. Are you wondering about my morning walk? Well, even though I didn't feel like it, I dragged myself out of bed at dawn, put on my workout shoes, and did it anyway! To read more about 'doing it anyway,' see Day #3 in the book '100 Days of Weight Loss.' Note: This is #2 in a series on being committed to your weight-loss plan, not just interested in it. Great question. My absolute favorite meal and the only food I really craved is Shrimp Tacos from Garcias (Mexican Restaurant here). So yummy.

Topic: Commitment
The Wt. Loss Minute by Linda Spangle, RN, MA www.100DaysChallenge.com Great idea: Deepen your commitment to the future 'Remember me? I'm the one who cannot commit to losing weight.' That's how her email started. But what struck me was that almost any one of you could have sent it! I think we all struggle with this at times. We get desperate, decide we're ready, and jump back on our diet or exercise plan. We're also determined that 'this time,' we will make it work. But it takes so little to distract us. A glass of wine, an enticing piece of cheesecake, or maybe just an open bag of tortilla chips. Next thing we know, we're planning to re-start our diet tomorrow. We explain it by saying, 'I thought I was ready, but I guess I wasn't.' Perhaps you didn't 'want' to be ready yet, because you still wanted to have some fun before the diet door closed. Commitment doesn't happen without effort. Sometimes, reaching your goal weight or a better fitness level may seem impossible. But you actually have a lot of power around sustaining your commitment. Over the next few weeks, I'll remind you of the differences between being 'interested' and being 'committed' to your goals around managing your weight. Here's the first one: When you're just interested in losing weight, you tend to stay with your plans only until 'something better' comes along. When the brownies show up in the break room, you decide you'll wait and start your diet tomorrow. But when you're committed, you stick with your efforts, 'No matter what!' That means you ignore the carton of ice cream that beckons when you've had a rough day. It also means that even when it's raining, you put on your workout shoes and head out the door for a walk. Here are a few ways to strengthen your commitment, helping you avoid slipping backward into being just 'interested.' * Convince yourself you can do it. Tell yourself, 'I will reach this goal, no matter what!' Then watch the scale move downward, keep trying on your size 12 jeans, or count the number of stairs you can climb before you get out of breath. * Create a mantra or phrase that you say every day (maybe even every hour) to remind yourself of your commitment. Perhaps you'll say 'I'm not giving up. I'll stick with my plans until I reach my goal. I'm determined to feel healthy and strong in the years ahead.' * Build a passion for the right thing. You don't want to be 'losing weight' for the rest of your life. So instead, set a goal of 'being' at a healthy weight. Or use an image of wearing a specific dress or pant size, or perhaps reaching a point where you feel strong and toned. This week, ask yourself the question, 'Am I interested or committed?' Then live in a way that demonstrates your commitment by staying on your weight-management program, 'no matter what!' To read more about staying committed, see Day 2 in the book '100 Days of Weight Loss.' To send feedback or comments on the Wt. Loss Minute, click 'reply' and send me a note. My cousin had that same problem sort of like a twisted or kinked up intestine and the doctor told her that sometimes it straightens itself out but please let us know what your surgeon says. I hope you feel better. Annette

Just curious . . . what side - right or left? I had the same pain under my left rib cage . . . was on vacation and ended up in the ER. They also did CT's, labs, etc & nothing . . . I was diagnosed w/costochondritis which is basically like a pulled muscle. They also gave me numerous gi ****tails & diagnosed me with acid reflux & esophageal spasms, & gave me prevacid. I had the surgery in Alaska & am currently going to school in California without any insurance. I would be interested to hear what they say . . . and if your's is the same side as mine . . . perhaps I'll give my old surgeon a call . . . I'll be thinking about you . . . & hoping for the best!
