Happy Friday! Well, I thought that I would start the check-in for this week. I did okay this week, fell off the wagon a few times. I just love those carbs! I am so afraid that I am going to wind up heavy again. My surgery was on 2/24/04 and on my surgery day I was 307#. I weighed myself this morning and I was 145#. My lowest was #109 and my Dr. said that I needed to eat more to put some weight back on. I was really sick and weak. Well, to a food addict, having "permission" to gain weight was music to my ears. Now, I have gained back more than I wanted to and I need to really watch it and get back into exercising. I am 5'6", so 145# is still well within the normal weight...but I would like to be on the low end of normal. I would like to lose 15# and get back into an exercise routine. This is my goal....to lose 15 lbs by watching my carbs and drinking more water. Also, I am going to make an effort to exercise 4+ times a week. There...I said it, now I have to do it! How is everyone else doing?? Have a great weekend my fit and fabulous friends!! Joy Rene'e in snowy SD

Sarah, Protein and water are so important in this journey. My surgeon says I need a minimum of 75 to 125 grams a day. I use protein bars and/or shakes to help supplement if I'm low on the grams. They told us at Curves to do the machines hard 3 days a week and the other two to work the resting stations (running in place, jumping jacks etc) hard the other 2 if we were going to exercise 5 days a week). They recommend 3 times a week to exercise. Varying your exercise too will help and also not allow boredom to hit with the same routine. I try 3 times a week at Curves right now and the other days I walk the dog OR we go to the zoo, the mall, the gardens to walk. You're doing great!!!! Mary

Didn't lose any this week, but didn't gain either. I'm with you Joy when it comes to carbs! I love them way too much!! I have been getting my water in but have not gotten the exercising in like I should. I vow to walk at least 4 times this week for 30 minutes each. I've just got to make myself get back into the swing of walking!! I also vow to be completely aware of how many carbs I put into my mouth each day. Maybe if I do that, I won't eat as many and maybe the weight will start to decline. Everyone have a great week! Wanda

thats really true and a great goal Wanda I think I am gonna add it to my list!! (I mean the one about the amt of carbs going into our mouths...I think I dont realize the carb content in some of the things I eat)!!

Wanda, Carbs are my enemy too. I'm working to do more complex carbs if I eat them. I find that the days I do regular bread, crackers etc are the days that I am the hungriest. If I do complex carbs or no carbs, I do so much better keeping my hunger under control. You are doing GREAT!!! Mary

Hi, I'm here, I'm here. I couldn't believe myself this morning ... I got up and went to Curves even before thinking of turning on the computer!!!!! Thanks for starting the thread today. (remember, anyone can start the thread each week). I so understand about the carbs. They love me, I love them. I have been doing quite a bit of reading on Low Glycemic eating. It allows carbs but complex carbs. For example instead of white bread, you eat whole grain bread. Instead of white rice, you eat brown rice. Instead of baked potatoes, you eat a baked sweet potato. Again, moderation is the key too. The complex carbs keep your blood sugar and hunger levels in check. Joy, you will get the weight back off. Just make yourself the priority. It isn't always easy, but it is so worth it. I've exercised almost daily, so met that commitment. I've done horribly tho on remembering my vitamins. I don't know why it is such a choice. Just the thought of taking them is a turn off. I really have to work on my mindset about them. I've taken vitamins for years and never had problems. Gained a pound this week, but know it is water retention from too much salt (soy with su****he other night). It will come right back off. Hope everyone has a great week. Mary 305/177/????

Hey. I was good with everything else except for the walking, my vitamins were taken and not missed. Another thing that I have to watch out for is taking my synthroid since I have hypothyroidism. I take that on schedule too. I am proud of myself, now I have to walk. Three days this week is my goal. Oh and weight I maintained the weight that I gained last week but maintaining is better than gaining. Annette 324/291/163.5
