I am ashamed to admit this and this is the only place I have admitted this. I have gained back 20lbs!!! I never even reached my century goal. I suffered a miscarriage in June and it just threw me into a depression that hasn't let up. Its not that I am "pigging out" I am just more hungry and more often and I can eat more then my peers. For instance I can eat a whole sandwich instead of just a half.
I am very sad about this gain but just am not in the right set of mind yet to lose anymore.
hugs,
Michelle
Hello All,
I have also gained back 20 pounds, due to a lot of insulin and other medication changes. I know that I need more exercise, unfortunately I am not able to consume as much protein as others. Due to being diabetic and leaking too much protein in my urine I was told by my doctor that large amounts of protein is not good for me to consume. So I have switched to eating a ton of Tofu with vegetables. My weight can easily fluctuate 5 pounds up or down in a week. This process is so much harder than I ever thought it would be, but I am trying to keep hope alive that I will one day make it to my surgeons goal of 202 pounds.

I think that for many of us who are diabetic, it's a lot harder, even if we are more 'normalized' after RNY in regards to sugar, to lose weight. I know that I'm currently looking into getting more information on how diabetic post-bypassers are supposed to metabolize food post-op, because right now, I really spike high (in the 200s sometimes) right after eating, then drop to normal at 2 hrs, then drop into hypo numbers around 3-4 hours after eating sometimes.
I still consider myself fortunate, at this point, because I've been able to stay off diabetic meds since the surgery, but am afraid with those spikes, my next A1C isn't going to be as good as the past ones were. Not sure what changed, but need to figure it out .
I too have gained about 15 lbs. I bounce around with about 5 lbs, but the 10 lb weight gain seems to be permanent. I too make terrible food choices. I can eat all of a small sandwich such as a single hamburger or fish sandwich from McDonalds. I do OK thoughout the day, but at NIGHT--OMG. I don't eat because I'm hungry, I eat out of boredom & nerves. My husband has been out of work since July 29th. He is a truck driver. He drove local for 25 years & then his company got rid of him right before his 50th birthday when he would have been fully vested for lifetime retirement benefits & I would have gotten lifetime benefits even if something unfortunate would have happened to him. Oh well, here he is at 50 years old trying to get with a new company. (But he will be a long distance driver) He will find out on Wednesday if he got a job he has been trying for the last couple of weeks. BAD NEWS--he has gallstones that need immediate surgery. (which is this Thursday) He talked to he HR of the company he is courting & they said that if he is picked for the job that all he has to do is give them a date he can start. WHEW!!! Hopefully I will be back to work in the next 5 weeks (post op PS) & I work a 2nd job at night, so maybe that will cut down some of the eating. Sorry about the long post--it helped venting!!!

don't feel bad! i have gained 45lbs since 5/05 and want to just beat myself silly. i eat all the time. nothing makes me sick, dump, or throw-up. i realize this was a tool, but, i'm almost 2 years out and wondering if a revision is the answer. i threw up so much at the beginning, could i have a staple line problem? i'm so ashamed. should i go to the surgeon and find out, or do i try to lose this on my own (impossible). i am so depressed.. help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had my surgery Feb 11.2005. I have gained between 5 to 10 pounds. It goes up and down. It scares me. Because I don't want to gain my weight back. Yes its easy for someone to say don't eat. Eat protein first. But when I eat I am not hungry. It is boredom, Stress etc. I eat sometimes and don't even realize it. It has become habit. Its very fustrating.

I was just checking the February board just to see what was going on with people who had the surgery along the same time I did. I am maintaining my weight loss. I was in Louisiana about two months ago due to heat loss six pounds water I assume. I have since put most of that back on but if you look at my profile I have maintain since April at 182 pounds. Now this is what works for me. I measure using only 1/2 cup, no I am not full on 1/2 cup but this is my stopping point; I drink 100 ounces of water daily, and I walk 25/30 miles per week; I write down everything I eat. I would like to lose back down to 176 or 175. I don't do the protein drinks anymore, I notice in the posting this seems to be the key so, I will invest in a case of protein this weekend and see what happen. For those who have gain don't beat upon yourself, you have done well. Try and use some of the pointer that work for me and see will this help you. After all we are in the together for the rest of our life. Read my profile it may or may not help you. I know you can DO IT!
Happy Tuesday!
