I posted a while back about having problems with my low blood sugar. I read alot but very seldom do i ever post. But i was just wandering if any of ya'll are having problems with hypoglycemia? I am leaving on the 12th headed to the Mayo Clinic in Minnisota for surgery. I ended up being one or those rare statistics that have an over active pancreas after surgery. They call it (Hyperinsulinemic Hypoglycemia w/ neuroglycopenia). Basiclly it means that when i eat, my blood sugar drops extremely low. The plan is to remove part of my pancreas so that i will not produce so much insulin therefore leaving me low blood sugar free. I have been fighting a battle since about March with this low blood sugar thing. It has dropped as low as 15 on a few different occasions. It averages about 50-60 until I eat then it drops. I have been able to maintain between 155-165 though. And that is great. My 10's are to big. So it's 6-8's. (I even squeezed into a 4) I bout peed on my self too. I am looking forward to having all of this behind me and enjoying my new life once again. Would love to hear from anyone that is experienceing any of the same problems.

Oh Becky, I'm so sorry you are going thru all of this. I've heard of a couple having low blood sugar, but nothing like you are going thru. I hope the Mayo Clinic will be able to help you. Mary

Becky - I'm currently in a situation where, after I eat, I spike 150+ (effectively, dumping symptoms, sweating, racing heart, etc), then at 2 hours after I eat, I'm back in the 'normal range' and by 1-2 hours after I eat, I'm back down to the 70s or lower even... Nothing about diabetes is ever 'normal', but I don't know what's normal for this or not - I'm not currently living in the area where I had the surgery done, so I need to find someone else new to see to try to normalize this and see what the deal is -- ie: is this to be expected or whatever, and should I be on meds again etc. Is there any way you could get some medication rather than having to go through the surgery to remove part of your pancreas? I just worry overall about people who have that ending up like a type 1 if the beta cells in the remaining tiny pancreas burn out.. (sometimes happens to us Type 2s, changing us into Type 1s ). I suppose Mayo would be at the cutting edge of this, I just worry about long term stuff. Best of luck to you with getting it straightened out -- sucks that thi**** after things get better with the weight. How did this all start back in March with you? (again asking because of my experiences with spiking/crashing sugars). Thx. ...Nick

I am having the same problem, only mine drops low and then I eat and it is fine for an hour or so and then drops again. I am continually munching on complex carbohydrates to try and keep it up. The doctors say no more than four ounces at a time so how does one eat enough to keep things where they belong. Or well, Iguess it is one draw back to an otherwise wonderful thing. I am about 157 and loving every minute of it. I think a 10 is great and a "4" Way to go Girl!!!!!!!!! Let me know how things turn out with the surgery. Deb
