Have any of you thought about this? Or am I the only one? Is it possible to go from a transected stomach to a lap band procedure? Can they put a band on the pouch? Joanne

I never really thought about it. Are you thinking that the lap band would prevent you from overeating now? Not sure if they can put a band on the pouch...but it seems feasible. Might be difficult to get insurance to pay again, don't you think? I'll have to look at the diagram of rny again. Paula

Joanne, I have no idea. BUT since the pouch is totally separate from the old stomach (transected = separated, right?) I would doubt it. There is a possibility of slipage with the lap band ring in some patients. Since your new tummy is so much smaller, I would think it would be extremely difficult to place. If you research it, let us know what you find out. Mary

Joanne, I've heard of it being used on RNY patients who have larger stomas or have had them enlarged. I seem to recall it gets placed just above the stoma to make a smaller hole out of the bottom of the pouch thereby getting the benefit of restricting food intake. Linn

Hi, I know that my doc, Dr. Richard Carter, in Arlington TX has been banding bypass patients. Is this what you are asking? I don't know much about it but I know it is being done. Robin
