BUFFETS??
Hi everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well. I have been finding that it seems to be a waste of money to pay for a buffet(usually between $8.50 and $9.00), because I usually can only eat 1/2 plateful or so, but yet I like being able to have a variety of foods to try, but most buffet restaurants we go to will not honor my restaurant card. This is frustrating because my family and friends all like going to buffets. I have tried to just nibble off my husbands food, but always have a waitress telling me we are not allowed to share. So I was curious, what do you all do about buffets? Do you just avoid them all together, or do some places you go to give you special pricing? Thanks in advance to all *****ply.
Have a great day,

Rhonda, I avoid them if at all possible. I do not have a restraunt card.
if it's not avoidable to go to a buffet, then i go, eat what I can and pay the price...figuring that i don't do it that often and once in a while is ok...after all - before surgery i'm sure i ate more than 8.00 worth of food and it will all even out.

I almost never go as I know I can't possibly eat enough to make it worth my money and also because I know that I'll be tempted to overeat when there's so much to choose from.
I did recently go to a restaurant where access to the buffet came with the meal. My Mom and I just told the waitress that I was a bypass patient so I would be eating the meal and my Mom would be using the buffet. She was fine with that and it worked well, but I know not all restaurants are as accomodating.
I don't use a restaurant card at all. I generally just split a meal with someone else or buy what I want and take home the leftovers.

I don't have nearly as much trouble with the price as my husband does. We almost never go to buffets unless we're going with friends who want to go because my husband can't see paying the price for it.
I've never used a restaurant card, but on those rare occasions when we do go to buffets, I often eat things that would be more expensive to buy anyway (like crab legs, salmon, and shrimp coctail). I figure it all evens out in the end.

I go to buffets, and enjoy the little bit of food, i try to eat the shrimp and a piece of sugar free cheesecake, my hubby doesnt mind that i cant eat much and no one in my family seems to care. I dont go often but when i do i enjoy eating different stuff. I wouldnt worry to much about going, just go and enjoy yourself.

Rhonda,
I never use the restaurant card. Yes, we do go to buffets now and I do OK. I don't worry about the cost, just pick a buffet that has lots of protein on it. The salad bar buffets just don't work for me. I want at least a small piece of chicken. My husband enjoys the buffets and as long as they are reasonably priced, I agree it is OK to go. I don't feel that I over eat when we go, so that helps too.
I've never asked for special pricing at the buffet.

Hi Ronda,
I just wanted to put my 2 cents in. I was told before surgery by a women and she said that she would feel deprived because she would always order a side salad or something cheap. She said it was really making her feel deprived. I remember that when we go to the buffets. I dont look at it as money, but entertainment with my family/friends. I eat the expensive stuff and take my time eating. Good luck to you

We go to the buffet because many of our family and friends like to go and fellowship together there. Neither my husband or I have ever used a restaurant card but there are several buffets that will allow you to pay per pound off of the buffet tables. That way you can still enjoy whatever foods you like and you can pay for whatever quantity you would like to eat and still sit down and enjoy your company as they enjoy their buffet.
