Question of the Day - Friday
I suppose it is okay if I start this thread.
I was wondering what is your favorite game to play as a group. I'm not much on games for large groups. I tend to like scrabble, yahtzee, and absolutely love the game trouble. LOL
We played a game called "catch phrase" at a Sunday School social. It was so much fun. We went out and got our own. My sister took it to Gatlinburg with her family and they had so much fun, that we are going to play it at our Family Christmas get together.

I use to play uno as a teen, and it was so much fun. It is a good family game. I might get that and phase 10. All of my children can play uno, and we need to get back into a family night. I like dominoes, but it has been so long since I played. I do NOT like monopoly. It takes to long for me and makes me nervous. LOL I think all the males I know love it. Must be a money and power thing.

Deb,
Absolutely OK to start the question thread ... open to anyone. I just started it the other day to get the ball rolling and to get our group more active again.
We move into our new home in 2 weeks (close in 12 days --- yes, I'm counting). We've ordered a pool table, so I think that will be our new favorite group game. I've never played before, but Hal loves the game.
Catch Phrase is fun, I agree totally. Wonder where ours is packed?????

I love word games...Scrabble, Catch Phrase and Taboo is my absolute favorite; it's kind of a twist on the old Password. Unfortunately, I'm really good at it, so I can't get anyone to play against me.
HATE Monopoly...my brother wanted to play it all of the time. Actually, he's 42 years old and has Monopoly checks of all things! Some people never grow up.
We also get a kick of out playing Spoons and we play cards with my parents everytime they come to visit. We love Phase 10 and in Indiana, everyone plays Euchre.
DId you read my post about not liking monopoly? LOL I truely think it is a man's game, or it seems to be around my house.
I played spoons as a child, but don't remember the rules. I learned a new card game while at our Marriage Retreat. It is called back alley. It was fun. I'll have to get the rules again. What is Euchre? I know I have heard of it before. Is a purchased deck of cards, or regular poker cards?
Debbie
Monopoly - ptoooey!!!
Euchre is a game played with a partial deck of regular playing cards. You only play with 9's and up. Each player is dealt 5 cards and you bid on what suit you want it to be and how many tricks (or hands) you believe you can take. It's a little complicated at first, but easy once you get going and it's VERY popular here. People play it on their lunch hour.
Spoons is much easier and family friendly. You lay spoons out on the middle of the table - 1 spoon less than there are players.
You pass out 4 cards to each player and then the dealer begins to go through the pile one card at a time. He gets to look at it, decide whether he wants it or not and and he either passes that card to the next player or he can give him one of his and this continues around the table. The dealer wants to pass along cards as quickly as he can. The object of the game is for one player to collect 4 of a kind and grab a spoon. Everyone else is busy still reviewing/passing cards. When they notice someone has taken a spoon, everyone else grabs for a spoon as well. Obviously, someone gets left out and they "get" a letter to spell SPOON. Once you've unfortuantely collected enough letters to spell spoon, you're out and you remove another spoon from the table.
The faster your family can play, the more hilarious it becomes when everyone is grabbing for spoons. It can get wild and there is always someone who tries to fake grabbing a spoon just to stir things up. We always play at at family events since every one from the young to the old can play.
Have fun!
