I'm sitting here drinking a vanilla cream drink. The nutrition label breaks it down like this. Calories 180 Total fat 9g (2g net fat) Total Carbohydrate 4 g fiber 2g sugars 1g sugar alcohol 0 other carbohydrate 1g Protien 20g lots of vitamins Does this sound okay? I hope so, because I'm not a fan of protien drinks, but I think I can do this one. Let me know if you have tried this one, and if there is a better drink that is comparable in taste. I'm really ticked, because I have gained 4lbs since March. I initially lost all of my gain that I had because of anemia, but it is coming back on. I really feel like it is the Lupron shots that is causing it. I'm in chemical menopause right now, until my hysterectomy. I can't afford to gain anymore weight. I'm suppose to loose all I can before my surgeries. Sigh... Anyone in menopause right now? Am I kidding myself about the weight gain being caused by the Lupron? I'm seeing my gyn Monday for another Lupron injection. (oh Joy!) I'll ask him these questions. Thanks for listening, Deb

If you're in trouble drinking this, then I'm in trouble too because I'm finishing creamy chocolate slim fast as I write this. They're not my favorite (no protein is), but it's okay and it's a good source of protein to keep me from seeking out other snacks at the office. The best thing is that they sell them already cold at the gas station around the corner, so I can grab one for breakfast if I don't eat at home. No menopause here yet, other than some pre-menopausal insomnia but I think I'd welcome it. Maybe not. I had gained 3 pounds as well and I've just now taken it back off after alot of honest soul-searching about what had crept back into my eating habits. I know it's going to be a life-long struggle. Let me know what the dr. says about the Lupron (for the anemia, right?) and possible weight gain.

Well, I'm glad to know I'm in good company. I like the fact they are already mixed and don't have that powdery, lumpy feeling. I do think they might aggrivate the lactose thing. I just went potty, and feel like I have to again. They might not be the best thing, if I'm not near a bathroom, or in a group of people. Sigh... The Lupron is to shrink my fibroid, and stop my cycles, hence chemical menopause. I have had hot flashes and some night sweats, insomnia. I don't look forward to the real thing. My anemia is under control, after the two iron infusions. I feel great, but hate the weight gain. I know it will be a life long struggle, but maybe we can keep it in check, and not let the 4 to 5lbs get to be 30 and 40lbs. Debbie

It looks to me like the Slim Fast low carb drink is a pretty good choice. I've never tried it, but the next time I'm at Walmart, I'm going to buy it and give it a try. I wish I could help you with your Lupron question, but I don't know anything about it. I do know our harmones play a part in our weight fluctuation and the smaller we get, the more we see it. When its my time of the month, I have to take a prescribed diuretic because I retain so much fluid. I don't remember retaining fluid before the surgery, but I'm sure I did. I just probably couldn't tell. Please, keep us posted. I'm curious about the Lupron. Wanda

Obviously, I can't speak from direct experience about hormones, but I know my wife is peri-menopausal, and had surgery Aug 03... She's had a lot harder time than I have even taking off the weight, and has fluctuated a lot more since she's been over a year out. Both of us could (and should) exercise more, but our schedule often pulls us in different directions from 8 am to 8 pm, and then we're exhausted. Yeah, I know, excuses excuses . As a now "diet-controlled diabetic" (A1C < 6 without medication, since the surgery), I usually use the 15g non-sugar-alcohol carb rule - if it's more than 1 carb-exchange per serving (not including the sugar alcohols) I avoid it to try to prevent dumping. Obviously, there are lots of bread-y things that this doesn't apply to, but I try to use it for protein drinks and bars, those that I do end up using (usually as meal replacements). So in short, the SlimFast drink looks pretty good, stats wise. If it tastes good, so much the better. And generally, SlimFast is available almost anywhere, unlike some of the other non-lumpy drinks.

Deb, I did a bit of research on the net about Lupron. It can cause water retention so that could explain the weight gain. Haven't tried the Slim Fast ... good that it is low sugar and no sugar alcohols. I hate sugar alcohols OR should I say they hate me ... LOL. Mary

Thank You for looking that up. You know I don't feel so much heavier, it is a heavy bloated feeling all over. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is fluid, but I'm sure the 3 musketeers don't help. Debbie
