Has your taste for food changed since surgery? If so, how. My taste for food has changed greatly. One example is, I used to love to eat potato chips and french onion dip. I just don't enjoy it now at all. I do love to eat deli ham wrapped in swiss cheese and deli chicken slices wrapped in pepper jack cheese. The thought of eating anything greasy turns my stomach now. How about you? Wanda

Yes, my taste have changed. I think I love carbs even more now. I don't care for a lot of fat laden things anymore. I find I can eat a whole lot more now. Somedays I can eat a whole sandwhich. I do pull the crust off, and pinch here and there, but almost a whole sandwhich. Sigh... I was addicted and I'm not using the word lightly to pistachio's and cinnamon discs, when I was anemic. I would go to WM even as late as 11pm to get some. I had to have them at my disposal. I can't even look at them now. (since my iron levels are up... I learned it was called pica) I don't drink anything bu****er and a small glass of orange juice. I love hamburger steaks with onions. I probably make myself a patty at least once a week. I have to watch the pringles. I try to get the new Lays dill pickle ones for the kids, because I don't like them. Debbie

I'm right there with you. I can eat a whopper junior with no problem; also a sandwich made at home. Sometimes it goes down so easy its scary; others I get full faster. Greasy things just don't do it for me anymore; sometimes it makes me queasy just thinking about it. My greatest weakness is crunchy things. I love wheat thins and keep them around often. If I had Pringles at home, I'd be a goner. Fortunately my kids and spouse love icky things like salt & vinegar chips which I can't stand, so I buy them and can leave them alone easily. I CAN tolerate sugar (not so much baked things, but candy/chocolate) and it's a struggle to avoid. There are jars of candy at the office and I have to work HARD to stay away when I walk past. I generally have to go into the bathroom to look at myself in the mirror and remind myself of how far I've come and how easily it could slip away.

I can eat a children's sonic burger, and it only has meat and bun, but I take off the top bun. I'm hurting when I finish. My surgeon asked me why I eat it, if it hurts? I had to laugh, and wonder that myself. I guess the old me is still there. I want to get my money's worth. I have to work on this head still. I can tolerate most any kind of sugar, other than syrupy drinks. I don't have any problem with chocolate. I've been craving chocolate for the past several months. I'm on permanent pms here. I keep those bite size 3 musketeers bars in a candy jar on the counter. I usually have 3 or 4 of those a day. Wonder if that is the cause of my weight gain? LOL I was tempted to refill the jar last night, but I didn't buy anymore. I've got to get a grip on this weight and my cravings. Hard, Hard, Hard to do. YOu have done a great job! Deb

Wanda, Great question. I found that I don't so much crave things any more, I just want to eat ... for example, we are eating out a lot right now as most of our things are packed up. Pre-surgery I would of told Hal specifically what sounded good for dinner and where I wanted to go. Now, only occassionally, do I want something specific otherwise I'm happy with most any protein meal. Also I have seen a huge difference in satisfaction level. Hal got fries the other day and 3 was my satisfaction limit. Before it would of been a huge order of fries. I still like salads, but not to the extent of before. Before I made a huge salad a meal, now I just want a few bites to get the crunch. Mary

It is so funny how I can relate to what each of you have said! I too can eat almost a whole Sonic children's burger. Throw in a cherry slush as the drink in that wacky pack and I'm set! Like Mary, I can get by with just a few fries. And my family and friends have all learned not to even ask me where I want to eat when we go out. I truly don't ever have a yearning for any certain thing. Wanda

My tastes have changed for the worst--CARBS. Pre-surgery, I didn't eat much bread or chocolate--now thats all I want. Don't even let me pass a Krispie Kreme Doughnut store!!! The only thing that is really good for me (as far as protein goes) that tastes the same as before surgery is grilled steak. Nothing turns my stomach except for protein bars & drinks.
