Concerned but scared to post

I'm a little concerned about posting this, but I hope this is a board where we can talk freely without anyone getting offended and I hope you all take it in the spirit offered. I'm concerned about the recent thread where everyone is talking liquid diets. I know it's working for several and I guess that's good, but to me it feels like the same old desperate, gimmicky fixes we all rushed to embrace pre-op. Been there, done that. And I hope to never go there again. It didn't work then and I'm doubtful that it will work now - at least for me. I find it scary to think that that may be my future and I don't think my surgeon or dietician would support it. I know I'm only 3 lbs from goal and that may be coloring my perception of it, but "back to the basics" to me means eating right...lots of protein, veggies, fruits, no sugar, lots of water and all of my supplements and vitamins. Doesn't anyone else get cold feet and clammy hands just thinking about going all liquid? Julie 254/ 143

I do.. I have thought about it every day for about the past week, thinking that it would be a great way to re-kickstart the weight loss. However I have been sick and the weight is falling off me from that. So have come to the conclusion that I do not need to revert back to my old ways to lose the weight. I can understand why people are looking at doing the liquid thing. As Im almost back to the same frame of thinking myself, I just hope we can all remember this "tool" we have and that our "honeymoon" period is not even over yet. 18 months to make it work.. Good luck everyone, whatever your decision. Lee

Julie, I'm not offended in the least bit and am thankful for your concern. You are absolutely right when you say we need to stick to the basics. I personally needed to do something drastic to get me back on track, and it worked. Will I do it again.... probably not. I did feel like I was "dieting" and that is not a good feeling. One good thing did come from it though, I'm truly back to the basics now. You are such a good role model! Thanks for sharing your concern. Wanda

I'm not offended at all. I do get ill thinking about protien drinks. I was not on them long to begin with, but I do think it will help me get my needed protien in. I seriously doubt I can do just protien drinks for even 2 days, much less more than that. I would like to have some canned drinks in my refrigerator, so I can be prepared. I feel for sure my last lbs will come off with my future surgery and more activity as soon as I'm cleared to start *exercising* (curse, curse) LOL Don't ever be afraid to post here. I hope we are all grown ups. Debbie

Hi Julie, Congratulations on being 3 pounds from goal. That's when the real work starts, I believe!! I have spent over an hour replying to this post and my computer keeps knocking it out. So, I'll keep it short. Julie, please don't ever be scared to post, especially if you feel something might harm others. I respect your opinion and certainly wouldn't want to contribute to something negative. If you feel that way I'm sure others do as well. I don't agree though that the diet is a "gimmicky fix" as Joanne got the ok from her surgeon. I have referred people from the main board back to their nutritionist or surgeon. I did feel comfortable sharing with Wanda and Debbie because I feel I know them a little better. So, I'll refer people back to Joanne, if she still wishes to share. Thanks, Paula

Julie, I'm sure no one is offended at all about this post. I have seriously considered doing the protein shakes and protein bars for a few days just to get my body back on track 100% like we did right after surgery. I, for one, know I couldn't do it for a long period of time. On the list I belong too of long term post-op, many of done the extra thing and found that it seemed to shrink the pouch and also brought back the dumping syndrome for them. AND you are absolutely right ... getting back to basics should mean high protein/low carbs and no sugars etc. I know I have been getting way too many carbs in the last couple of months. Mary

Thanks for letting me be real and talk about the things that are on my mind. I feel better knowing that it's been checked out and supported by many who've gone before us and their physicians. I am trying to make a concious effort to up the protein, but I doubt if I'll go all liquid because I'm a wimp and I can't stomach (joke!) the thought of no food for very long. Thanks, Julie

Julia, I'm sorry, this has nothing to do w/ your thread but I was reading your profile and noted you used a planner from this site to compare your planned vs. real weight loss. How do I find that site, please? BTW, you look wonderful, conrats. tia. Best~barb

1) Go to the Main Entrance page (see above link) 2) Scroll down to the BMI Calculator, click link 3) You will see a link to "Looking for the Weight Loss Planner?" 4) Enter your starting weight, height and the % of weight you hope to lose. This will outline where you should be each month for 18 months. Please be aware that many people do not lose at the same rate that the planner lays out, so I wouldn't want you to be disappointed. I tended to lose faster than the planner indicated, but now am almost exactly in line with it.
