I AM ABSOLUTELY LIVID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am absolutely livid !!!!! I had my profile spruced up by a OH volunteer. Now my profile page is being used on a website for a Surgical Clinic that I have never been to. According to the website...the OH volunteer gave them the profile. This is absolutely absurd !!!!!!! Has this happened to anyone else ? I ran my name through a Yahoo search and the Surgical Center link came up. I have never been to this place or had anything to do with it ! I am so angry with the person from OH that spruced up my profile !!!

Sorry...not the volunteer's fault. Post enough times on OH and you will be picked up my crawlers for search engines...THAT'S how it happens. If you go to the actual site that you Yahoo(ed) to, you will find that you are not a 'click-able' patient...therefore, you are not actually claimed as a patient. I've Googled my own name as well...I've come up on 100's of sites...the only way not to is to make your profile private (both to the public and to yourself) and wait for the crawlers to time out (usually a few months) and not to post anything on this web site ever again...not worth it in my opinion. I don't blame you for being upset I just made my profile not visible to public. Thanks for the heads up, it's bad that it happened and it makes you loose your confidence in the site. You should talk to somone in charge and let them try to justify changing your profile. Good Luck

Good morning Jill, Thank you for your responce. I have talked to several people and this is what I have learned. OH runs many sites having to do with Gastric Bypass. Loriann, Contact OH directly and explain to them what you have discovered. Supply them with the link to the website that is using your information without your consent. See what their response is. I know when OH did photos for me at one point, I had to sign and fax back to them a release. BUT I thought the release stated (gave me the right to decide) whether or not my photos could be used for other things OH did. Just because a site says they got permission from OH doesn't mean they actually did. Hope you can get it straightened out. I understand your concern and anger over this. Mary

Good Morning Paula, I knew that I was not the only person that this has happened to. OH runs many websites for surgical centers......I think that this is a conflict of interest. OH also owns all the info that we put on our profiles and post on the message boards. I thought my info was safe becasue OH is password protectd...I was wrong. There are some extremely personal things on our profiles, and I think that it is a breach of trust on OH part. Good Luck on your WLS journey, Loriann p.s. How is Sourthern California ? Morning Loriann, yeah i was kinda suprized too. I dont even have my last name on here and I put in my first and last name on yahoo search and bam it came up. I was suprized myself. so how has your weight loss been? where did you move to? its been rainy here im so tired of it lol. I am so ready for summer. hope you are doing alright. Paula
