are any of you feb gals on birth control pills? has it slowed down your weight loss or caused you to regain lost lbs? which pill do you take? also, has anyone heard anything about bc pills not being as effective after WLS? I had this in my head for some reason, which has kept me from getting on the pill. Thanks in advance! Rachel 270/148

Rachel, I don't have a need since I had a hysterectomy but I know several talk about using the patch once they reach a weight suitable for the patch because of the malabsorbtion problems. I have even seen some talk about a shot they get once every few months I think some other opitions to consider. Good luck, Nancy

Rachel, You should call your surgeon and ask his opinion. I thought (and I could be wrong) that there were possible malabsorption issues with the pill after surgery. I'm 52 so haven't had to worry about the BC issue. Mary

Hi Rachel. I was on the pill, Ortho Tri-Cyclen before and after surgery and have since stopped taking it, because I'm trying to get pregnant. My surgeon did not warn me of any problems or potential problems with malabsorption and bc pill effectiveness. They did not recommend I switch from oral contraceptive to shot or patch. It worked for me. After surgery, it took a while for my period to kick in again, so I had to wait to start the pill back up...it was recommended I stop the pill 2 weeks before surgery. I was on the pill for about 6 months until I stopped taking it in November. Let me know what you find out. Good luck. Denise

Hi Rachel, I don't know if this will hel*****t.. But I am on the patch. I LOVE IT. I would never go back to the pill again. As long as you are under 198lbs you can safely go on the patch without a problem. But as the others have said I would check with your Dr. and see what he/she says.

Hi Rachel - My doctor placed me on the Nuva Ring, and I absolutely love it. When I was on BC pills, I had a history of mood swings and spotty bleeding. Since using the Nuva Ring, my emotions have stabilized and I only have 3 periods a year. Hooray! ~Lynn

I have been told about the problem with the pills too. I tried the patch, but was having heavy periods, and two a month..so now I'm on depo since August. Love the convience of it (except I'm spotting a little for 2 weeks now.. should resolve, but still annoying!) And my weight loss hasn't slowed down or stopped since starting it.. OH! And noooo mood swings. Sure my boyfriend would say otherwise though!! HAHA!

Since my surgery. I have been having problems with Pill. I keep spotting. My doctor told me it was because of the surgery and all the weight I am losing. He did not recommend the patch. Stated he has alot of patients that became pregant on the patch. Tina
