hi all, hope everyone made it into 2005 safe and well.... I'm still bounching with my weight. Now it's jumping between 175 and 179, don't think I'll make my goal of 160 by my year anniversary(Feb. 10) If someone can tell me something to do to jump start this thing, please do tell. I have a question, What was the reason we had to stay away from too much coffee? I have fallen so in love with the stuff, I drink more than one cup a day. Maybe that's way I'm not losing .. 291/175/160 -116 Linda

my doctor told me drinking coffee was fine. I drink alot of coffee. I have noticed my weight loss has slowed down too but i think its cuz of my eatting habits and not excercising. I know for myself I need to up my protine and up my excercise I know i wont make my goal by my year anniversary but close enough for me to be happy. you shouldnt be down in the dumps think on what you have acheved this year. god how many people can lose that much in a year unless they are totally killing themselfs at the gym. so pick up your chin girly your doing wonderful Paula 331/180 -151

Hi Linda! You are doing a great job with your weight loss I have heard that caffeine is a no no because it is a diuretic. You may loose weight at first, because it absorbs the fluids in your body, but after a while its just dehydrating. Are you drinking decaf or regular? I drink a tiny bit of caffeine sometimes, maybe once a month ill have a diet coke. I havent noticed any ill effects on my weight loss from it, but im not drinking enough to make a difference i dont think. I havent lost 15 lbs in a month since the first few months after surgery. I envy those who are still loosing so quickly!! I am loosing an avg of 5 lbs a month now, and I am very pleased with the loss still. I should be at "goal" ****ep changing my goal as i loose more weight) by 13 months postop. BTW - I do the weight bounce too. Ill reach a low and then for a week after that ill bounce up and back down by a few lbs. Its so common for me in my journey that I shrug it off as normal and keep on truckin lol! For example : i hit 148 lbs the other day, yesterday AM i was 150, this morning i was 149. Im sure in a day or so it will go back to 148 and then down to 147 or 146. Thats just how it is happening for me. It takes a few days for the loss to stick lol! Anyway, good luck and I think you are doing a great job!! Rachel 270/148

Linda, You have accomplished so much the last year. Isn't if wonderful!!!! Try not to get hung up on having to be at goal by your one year anniversary. Many it takes longer and oh my gosh, you only have 16 lbs to go. I have lost 124 lbs total (50 of it pre-op) and have 50 more lbs to go. Coffee -- reasons not to drink 1. High acid --- hard on many people's tummy 2. High caffeine --- which can incurease the appetite 3. Can act as a duritetic in the system and you don't want anything that can add to the possible dehydration 4. I also believe that something in the coffee can deplete calcium in the bones. Mary

I dont know about everyone else, but I know I dump on caffine, so I just stay away from it. Good Luck!

Linda - When else have you managed to drop 119 lbs in 10 months? Go pick up something weighing 100 lbs and walk around with it for just 5 mins. I think 116 is AWESOME. I'm only down 97 so far. And I know there's a bunch of us down below the 100 mark still. As for coffee, I admit, I'm biased; I couldn't live without the stuff. But if it's not bothering your pouch and you're drinking enough water to offset the diuretic effect then you shouldn't necessarily** have a problem. As with all things, doublecheck with your surgeon. That's not saying you might not lose more without the coffee; but if you like coffee, there are a lot worse things you could be getting into, you know? As far as jump starting, increase water, increase exercise, maintain food intake at current, and that should help some. Hang in there! ...Nick
