How'd it happen

I ate a bagel while talking to someone. My first bite I swollowed before I was finished chewing and I know one piece of it was about 1-inch square. I felt it going down but it went down. How could this happen? I had no problems with it or the rest of the bagel. It has worried me for weeks. Is my pouch opening broken? I have never had any problem with anything getting stuck ever. How'd it happen?

Don't panic. I find for me that bread goes down easily, however my brother can't even eat any bread without major problems. Each of us is different on what foods we can tolerate. I think bread compresses (think how soft it is). I would think it would go down easier than say a piece of chicken the same size. Chicken wouldn't compress, bread will. I have only had things get stuck about 5 times over the last 10 months. Some days I can eat more food than I could before and then the next day I'm back to just eating small amounts. I would be concerned IF you could eat large quantities of food and were gaining weight. Eating 1 bagel a couple of weeks ago doesn't mean anything is broken or wrong. However, if you are truly concerned call your doctor and asked for advice. Mary
