Joanne, Are you really feeling satisfied when you just eat the protein bars and shakes???? Early on, it was fine for me but now I do a protein bar or shake one or two meals a day and then dinner is real food like chicken or fish. Then I try to get in some type of fruit and/or veggie too. I do not track thru fitday .... I do count protein grams and do not eat anything with sugar over 5 to 7 grams. I get in at least 64 oz of fluids a day. For me it is working and this is what the dietitian had recommended .. count protein grams (75 to 125 a day for me), eat low carb and the rest will take care of itself. One thing that may be hurting you is the carb counts ... any bar that uses sugar alcohols and has fiber normally give "net" carbs not actual carbs. The Kaiser dietitian told us it was important to count actual carbs not the net carbs like Atkins does. A carb is a carb no matter how much sugar alcohol or fiber is in the food item. Mary

Joanne, Are you working with a Nutritionist? I have been seeing one since I started my journey and find her invaluable. At this time, I no longer drink shakes or protein bars. I am able to get what I need out of my food choices. I am currently 10 months out and have lost 198#. I average 1500 calories a day and exercised 4/5 days a week. I havent been able to execise the last month because I had a TT/hernia repair 11/24 but the doctor said I can start back on 1/1. I really think that you should start working with a nutritionist and when you get back from Disney start at the gym. You will be thrilled with the results. By the way, I went to Disney 11/1 and had a fantastic time. (we go every year) Enjoy yourself, it is my favorite place in the whole world. Already planning next years trip. Good luck Lisa 456/258

I think I'm alot like Linn and I eat much more than many of you, but it seems to work for me. One thing I can tell you is that if I eat multiple protein bars, I'll hold on to weight. There must be something about them (the extra fiber, maybe) that makes me gain. I only use them when I'm desparate and I use a Slim Whey which is very small and fairly low in calories. I totaled your 3 protein bars and found 550 calories for 43 grams of protein. If you like seafood (which I love!) try eating chilled, boiled shrimp. You can eat 6 oz. for a total of 232 calories and 45 grams of protein. It's a better deal for you if you're watching calories closely, and personally, I find it alot more satisfying. All in all, I think Linn is right (wise woman) tomorrow is another day. Just take it day by day and don't let it get you down.

Joanne, I wish you weren't so discouraged about what you ate. I went to www.caloriecontrol.org/calcalcs.html after reading your personal history and put in a few numbers. I hope this makes you feel a little better. I assertained from your history that you are 5'11" and age 40, so I put the numbers in and then put the number of calories you ate yesterday. It shows that if you maintain that number of calories daily, you should weigh........... 56 pounds! And when you take into consideration that our bodies don't absorb all the caleries we eat, you are really taking in less calories. I hope this helps. And please don't feel you eat too much. You should see what I've been eating here lately... I'm too embarrassed to post it! Have fun in Disney! Wanda
