Hysterectomy....

I have to have a hysterectomy on January 12th. I went to the pre-op class yesterday it brought up all of the feeling I went through before WLS. It's kinda scary but needs to be done. My question to everyone is besides the NG tube issue can anyone think of anything else I should be concerned about...do you think I should call my WLS and let him know? My surgery was done in a hospital 100 miles away. This hospital doesn't have a barriatric program, so I am feeling a little anxious about the whole thing. ...any thoughts are appreciated. Susan

I would call my surgeons office just to make sure, But I know there is something in Advil that we cannot have, so we are ment to have Tylenol but I would check just to make sure. Hope it all goes well and you have a speedy recovery. xoxox Lee

Susan, Definitely call your WLS surgeon's office and asked for their advice. No anti-inflammatory meds, no aspirin based meds and if they do an NG tube they need to do it with a scope (camera) not blindly. Lots of positive thoughts coming your way. You are so much healthier now, in better shape that your recovery should be so much better/easier. Wishing you the best and a very speedy recovery. Mary

Susan, I would be certain that your WLS chart be included so this surgeon and hospital staff is aware of your prior surgery and restrictions. I'm sure you know all you need to do is fill out the forms and have them faxed to the WLS surgeon and they'll send your records. When you go to be pre-registered, say you are allergic to NSAIDS so you won't accidentally be given any. This is a time that you will just need to be a bit more pro-active about your care than others may need to be since the staff at the current hospital may not be as educated about gastric bypass surgeries and patient restrictions. Nothing really to worry about, just make sure you tell them everything you DON'T want them to do. I was lucky with my gall bladder surgeon since he also does gastric bypass surgeries (RNY surgeon retired), so these things were already in the forefront of the surgeon's mind. You'll do wonderfully, and I'm sure you're already your own best advocate! Take Care, Linn

Susan, I totally agree with the others call your WLS and talk to him and let him know what is going on. I was recently in the hospital for something unrelated to my WLS and have learned to just tell them that I am allergic to Ibuprofen, NSAIDS, Aspirin, and tetracyline antibotics in addition to my regular drug allergies because these are what my surgeon doesn't want us to take and it just makes it easier. I had a partial hysterectomy about 7 years ago and everyone told me how depressed I would be I wasn't I was glad to be rid of the nagging pain I had 20+ days out of the month that I never felt better. Sending you hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery. Nancy

Susan, DEFINATELY check with your WLS. Better safe than sorry. This has nothing to do with the weight loss but, be sure to prepare yourself. I know when I had my hysterectomy I went through a little bout of depression. Keep your head up stay positive and I will keep you in my prayers. Deelainya 321/175/150

Did you have your ovaries removed? They are leaving mine so I won't go through that instant menopause thing. Hopefully I won't have depression.
