In training again...
Hi guys,
Just a little update. When I decided to visit my Mom and sister in Arizona I was looking to see what might be going on the week I'm there. Well, I discovered the "Rock 'n Roll Marathon" and half marathon they're having the second Sunday in January. I think I'll enter the half marathon since I've been looking for another exercise goal. Maybe increasing the running will help the scale go down a little more also since it has been very stubborn lately. I'm really nervous and excited and afraid I've bit off more than I can chew, but I'm going to try it anyway. What do ya think?
Linn
Hi Linn-
You go, girl! You can do whatever you set your mind to.
I did a 10K run/walk this past Memorial Day...walked it as I have artificial knees. It was such a confidence builder to know that I could really do something I had never dared think about doing before.
Are there any short run/walks you can use as practice or do you go to a gym? For example, we have the Jingle Bell Walk (arthritis) in a week, but I'm not sure I'll be back home from a trip by starting time.
Best wishes,
Rusty
P.S.
Missoula, huh? I graduated from St. Pat's back in the dark ages...was there in August for a class reunion (35th!!). Perhaps the next time I come up there we can get together.
Thanks Rusty,
I do go to a gym because I really hate to run in the cold. I don't like to wear a bunch of clothes because I start out cold and then end up too hot.
I did do a 10K back in October. I finished in just under an hour, but then had gall bladder surgery the next week and it was a little slow going getting back into it. The jiggly belly skin pulled on the surgery scars. I'm pretty much all better now, though, and really enjoy running.
My main goal for this run is to make it the whole way without walking. I was lucky enough to find a 6-week training schedule online that I think will work well for me, and I think the hardest part will be getting used to the long runs once a week.
It'd be great to get together with you next time you're in town. You read people's profiles and what they post and almost feel like you know them without ever having met.
Lin,
How exciting!! It's great that you will be able to do something like that. Don't worrie you will do fine. I Live in Az and the weather is beautiful and it's CHILLY....... Although your probley used to cold weather. Perfect weather for you, how long is the walk? Maybe I can try it let me know when and where and how to sign up. Thanks!
Good Luck!!!!
Jill
Hi Jill,
It's a half marathon - 13+ miles. I'm really nervous about it since my main goal is to jog the whole way. I found it online looking for races the weekend of Jan 8-9 in the Phoenix area since that's the weekend I'll be there visiting. I was originally looking for a 10K, but this is all I could find and it sounded like a good challenge. My boss ran the marathon last year and said it was a really great experience. It's pretty expensive to enter ($75.00) but they accept entries until Jan 2 and they are expecting 15,000 people to enter. I'm going to have to save up since I just bought the plane ticket, but am planning on entering in the next week or two.
Thanks for the vote of confidence,
Linn
