THE SUGAR MONSTER

Hi everyone, It's been about 9 months for most of us. Hard to believe, isn't it?? In late September, my dear brother was in an accident and in the ICU with a brain injury for a month. Thank God he is back to normal now. I called that month, "The month of chocolate". Friends and family flooded him with chocolate, candies, cookies, etc. And there I was, at his bedside every day, looking at all of these goodies that had become taboo in my life. I hadn't dared tried sugar yet, for fear of dumping. One thing led to another and let's just say that I have no problems with sugar DAMN IT! I can eat anything without problem. Some of you may wish you were in my shoes, but believe me, I wish I wasn't. I hardly had any self control before surgery and now that I have tested sugar, I'm so scared. I'm scared of falling back into bad habits. You'd think that losing 145 lbs already in 9 months (125 more to go to goal) would keep me from it... but it doesn't. Has ANYONE ELSE here experienced this yet???? Thanks for listening! xeni wls 2/18/04 RNY LAP 422/275/150

I can eat sugar too with little problem too, but it's not been as much of a struggle as I thought it might be. I'm satisfied with just a little (most of the time) and it's kind of nice to know that I can have it if I want it and it's up to me. I do still have trouble if I have more than 3-4 bites of ice cream and I think it's the combination of sugar and dairy and baked goods give me grief so you may find it not to be problem you anticipated. Halloween was a little difficult as our 3 year old grandaughter lives with us and there was alot of candy around, but I made it through okay. I bought candy that I didn't like or was allergic to (peanuts) and it was pretty easy to avoid. It IS scary but you may find it empowering as you discover you have control over it in a way you never did before. Good luck! By the way...what a wonderful picture you have! You look fabulous. Julie

I can still eat sugar. I'm using Splenda when I can, but sugar is no problem. Carolyn, I'll second the DAMN! Your picture is beautiful. Denise

Thank you both. I knew I wasn't alone - I just needed to vent. I hope that I can become empowered by my weight loss and the fact that I did it without eating sugar. I CAN do it (WE can do it), we just have to use our weight and sucess as a spring board for a life time of new and better habbits. Thanks again

Hi, Well in a way is good to know that everyone is not the same. If I eat sweets is about a bite and it has to be sugar free (Splenda). I had 2 bites of a fruit cake made with Splenda, and it made me sick. 1st my legs start shaking bad and then a deep sleep comes over me. So I'm forced to take a knap. There is a lot of sugar free chocolates, made by Hershey's and they are not bad, most of the time with a bite you should feel satisfy. Good luck and gontratulations on your wl. Maria S.
