Hey all, I come here because you all are in my same boat.. The dietation that my surgen uses is with the hospital and she does not see people all the time. And some of the information she has told me at support group meetings my surgen says No too. she told us once we had to eat 100 gm of carbs a day. WHATttt . lol ok so heres my question. Most of the time I eat about 1000 cals a day and 100 gr protein.. I dont eat alot of vegies and no fruit... so how does this compair? I have lost 133 pounds in 8 months and I think thats wonderful,, My PCP does lab work on me every 3 months and I am normal, for the first time in years. so any info would be great. hugs Mary

Mary sounds like you are doing great!!!!! 100 grams of carbs sounds like a lot even for people who have not had gastric bypass and are normal weight, but that is just my opinion. I average around 10 - 20 grams of carbs a day I do eat around 70+ in protien and veges and some fruit not much. Fruit is good to help with the fiber issue. My blood work is also perfect and I have lost 103 lbs so we must be doing something right went from being a diabetic to non-diabetic so like I say we must be doing something right. Nancy

Hi Mary Sounds like you are doing great. 100 carbs sounds like way too much to me, although I know everyone has different guidelines. My surgeon says we don't have to go completely "no carb" but he does recommend restricted carbs & to only eat the "good" ones (like from vegies, beans, & some fruits) - He stresses to stay away from the startchy stuff, which is fine with me because I still can't do bread. I usually eat between 800 - 1000 cals per day & my protein ranges from 60 on up. So so far it sounds like we are both on the same path. I hope that helps some. Congrats on the awesome weight loss God Bless Angel 142 since surgery / total of 192 (since preparing for surgery)

Hay there Mary. At 9 months out, I can eat just about anything I want in small portions. Although I don't generally measure or count, I do occasionally to check what kind of nutrition I'm getting in, and I am a creature of habit. My goal is to eat 800 - 1000 calories per day, (some days less, some days more - just like a normal person), and for it to be around 80 - 100 grams of protein and 50 - 100 of carbs. However, my carbs are from dairy, fruit and veggies, very very little in the way of starchy foods. I do eat a slice of lowcarb bread (toasted with low carb peanut butter and sf jam), but it is a whole wheat bread. No white bread, very very very little rice or pasta or potatoes. This all works for me. I need the higher protein because I'm so active. I eat 4-6 times per day, and I've lost 155 pounds. Best wishes to you! Ruthanne 2/02/04 365/212/175
