Size wise

Hello everyone, I just came back from the mall.....and I bought my first SIZE 6 jeans!!! Oh my God was there an abundance of clothing IN MY SIZE I was doing the happy the entire time. Here is a funny story to go with this wonderous news: Another lady and I were pouring over the racks together, looking at the clearance stuff. She said to me: "Tell me your size, I will tell you mine. That way we can pull stuff for each other, and cut down on the time it takes to look through all this stuff." I told her OK, then said I was looking for a size 6. She then said "Forget it, I am not telling you my size!" I did not know what to say, so I said nothing. A few minutes later, she said she was a size 12. I said "12 is a great size...At this time last year I was a size 28!!" She gave me a weird look, and walked away. Just thought I would share... Andrea

Andrea, Isn't it fun to be in smaller sizes and to have such choices. Right now I'm a 14/16 depending on designer. A year ago I was in 4X/5X (size 32/34??). I sent photos to my mom and she said the lady by my husband in one photo must be my friend Sharin, then realized the lady had the same blouse I had on in a close up. She didn't realize the photo was of me and my husband!!!!! We got such a laugh that she didn't recognize her own daughter!!!! Hope you found some great buys today. Mary

It is funny about pictures.... I looked so much like my thin sister in the Halloween pictures, I had to look again and again, just to believe it was me. This whole process is something. I have never been so excited, just to be me and to be alive and well! Andrea

How exciting for you!!! Congratulations, it's great that you are in such a small size. You worked hard for it and you should be proud and enjoy all your new choices. That lady was jellous of you, don't let it get you down. Be proud of yourself and keep up the good work. Best wishes, Jill

Congraulations Andrea! That must be so exciting! I know the first time I bought a size 8 jacket, I checked the tag 3-4 times thinking it had to be marked incorrectly. Isn't it kind of sad though that a woman who wears a size 12 would be so uncomfortable with herself. How unfortunate that you must have gone through what we've been through to truly understand and appreciate how lucky normal, healthy sized women are. Julie

So true what you have said about a healthy woman in a size 12. On the day of my surgery, all I wanted to do was buy clothing that was sized below 20. That is it! I had those jeans on tonight, and I was just so greatful to be able to fit into them.... But, had I been a size 12 for life that would have been perfectly OK. FYI, according to Oprah, the average American woman is a size 12, anyway!!

Andrea, Kudos to you! I tried some on last weekend but didn't buy them because I thought they were a little tight and bought 8's instead. Now I wish I'd bought the 6's because these are too loose by the time I've had them on for an hour. I did hear, though, that you should buy a size smaller than what you think fits since they stretch out during the day. I should've listened. By the way, I'm finding that there ISN'T as much selection in my size. I wanted a skirt and the only size they had left was a 12. It's funny that I would've killed to be small enough to wear that a year ago, and now I'm upset that it's too big! What a strange thing. Linn

That is a strange thing, isn't it? I was looking at some shirts this past weekend, in Wal Mart. I am a nurse, and I love the 7 dollar spandex-cotton blend shirts for work... they hold in the bat wings very nicely! Anyway, all they had was XL, which is too big for me. I used to buy a 26 28 last year, so hunting for a M is a thrill beyond belief! Wow, it is something else to say that "this is too big for me", isn't it? Andrea

When I actually stop ... and THEN think about it ... I'm excited and appreciate all of the weight I've lost. Choosing size 10's for me is the best feeling in the world, never thought I'd get there. But, when I go shopping my first instinct is to look at clothes that realistically fit me and say "no way, those won't fit me, I'd better shop in the larger department, get a bigger size". I still think of myself as a "large" woman, so I'll spend an hour trying on clothes that are way too big, and then realize that I've got to try on a 10. Why is that? Last year I would have killed to be a size 10, but now when I look in the mirror all I still see is "large". Is my brain taking longer than my body to adapt to a smaller size? Aileigh 265/160/150
