VIOXX - Important

Today in our paper there was a page long ad stating that Merck has voluntarily withdrawn Vioxx from the shelves. "This decision is based on new data from a three-year clinical study. In this study, there was an increased risk for cardiovascular (CV) events, such as heart attack and stroke, in patients taking VIOXX 25mg compared to those taking placebo (sugar pill). While the incidence of CV events was low, there was an increased risk beginning after 18 months of treatment. The cause of the clinical sutdy result is uncertain, but our commitment to our patients is clear." "Patients who are curretnly taking VIOXX should contact their health care providers to discuss discontinuing use of VIOXX and possible alternative treatments. In addition, patients and health care professionals may obtain information from jerck.com and vioxx.com or may call 1-888-368-4699." The above is just part of the ad ... but wanted to pass the information on to those of you who may be taking VIOXX. Mary

Thanks for looking out for the VIOXX users. I'm not one of them. I've also seen this info on the news. Have a great day, Mary. Denise

Thanks Mary, I am a Vioxx user, so I guess I need to ask about something else. Especially since I'm about out anyway. Linn
