Help! Lightheadedness

This past week I've begun having episodes of lightheadedness; today it was particularly bad. 5-6 times today when I'd stand, momentarily I'd have to grab for something to steady myself before I could get going. Anyone experience this? and if so, do you know what is causing it so that I can correct it? I've checked my BP and it's fine (102/80), so that's not it. Thanks for helping Julie

Julie, Are you drinking enough water? I used to get light headed when I didn't eat enough or drink enough water. Beyond that, I can't help.

Thanks for responding. I don't think I'm eating or drinking enough right now. This past week, I've simply had no appetite at all and my pouch feels better empty so I've had to MAKE myself eat. I'll work harder at it today and see if it helps the lightheadedness. Julie

Julia, I was seen in urgent care pre-surgery for lightheadness ... the first concern by the doctor was dehydration. Are you drinking enough and getting enough protein each day? Since I was hydrated, they did further checking. Turned out it was my blood pressure going too low. So we cut out one med, then after surgery the other. Low blood sugar could cause this too. Definitely call your doctor. Hope they find some answers for you soon. Mary

julie, I get that too from time to time. I always drink enough water at least 70 oz a day. My problem might be not enough protein but everytime I get my blood tested I am not anemic so I really have no idea!! Let me know what you find out would you?!! sarah

Mary and Sarah... Thanks for the tips. I see my GP tomorrow just for a quick check and I was going to ask him to run a complete blood screen then, so I'll also ask about the lightheadedness. I think I'm okay on protein, but I'm going to REALLY push water today and see if it improves. Thanks, Julie

Julie, Yes I have had this my Dr had me keep track of my blood pressure then when I went into the office he had me lie down and take my blood pressure then stand up quickly and take it again nothing wrong there, My blood work was great no low levels so the PCP and surgeon were just keep drinking 64 oz + and my blood sugars are so low that I am now in the NON DIABETIC catagory so that might be it. Needless to say I feel great and it seems that since I upped my water it is getting better I feel like maybe the heat and all was making this happen. So I know how you feel and I hope it gets better. Hey Julie, I was also having that problem for a while. They also did the lie/sit/stand BP's and they were fine as well. I know I was drinking lots of water, so that wasn't the problem either. Certainly try more water, like you said you were going to, but you might also need to eat more often. My PCP suggested that my body was just trying to adjust to all the changes and also suggested that I eat more often. The dizzy spells did go away, but I'm not sure if it's because of eating more often or just evening out. My weight loss has slowed down quite a bit so my body doesn't have to figure out what's going on like it did at first. Don't know if this helps, but I think it will just go away in time if your BP's are fine. Linn
